Another point the early water cooled cars made by Porsche were just that, EARLY....... A lot of new engineering and design has happened since Porsche started the water cooled programs.
The Early water cooled cars were very labor intensive to keep working in top condition.
The newer generations are very durable and the water cooling systems are a lot less labor intensive.
That said there seems to be a stigma about the Boxter being a chick car and this still seems to follow the car around.
I dont hear the same about the Cayman, or the 944 for that matter, they seemed to be more of a male owners type of car

Porsche Pete's Boxster Board is where you will find the online Boxster Owner's Community. PPBB.COM
I leased and drove a then brand new 2001 Boxster S for 3 years. I traded my 90 GT for it. It was a very fun car with plenty of power despite it's step child status. I went two summers without ever putting the top up. Also got FTD on a regular basis at local autocross events beating out the impressive Z06. It doesn't have the high speed highway cruise prowess of the 928, but is a lot more fun around town despite the sorry exhaust note.

The vast majority were leased cars the driver does not OWN the car....plus you cannot even see the engine let alone WORK on it. The only time anyone sees an engine is when it was dropped to the floor for some relatively minor problem that gets rather expensive to fix. The spec boxster racer likes that a NEW engine is like $7,000 which in Porsche Club racing is very , very CHEAP !

RKD got the answer correct. They are all on the Boxster Boards. VERY, VERY active group there! Every bit as big as 928 Forum here! Probably bigger and busier actually!
I look forward to owning a Boxster some day! I like them. '05 and newer in particular.

As such Porsche redesigned the entire engine. The current DFI 911 range and Boxster and Cayman S models use the new engine. The base boxster and cayman have the original design in I think 2.7L guise. The intermediate shaft M96 engines should disappear completely within another model year or two i imagine.
That cannot be good for long term value of the M96 cars (thinking 20 years down the road here)

The only mechanical problem I had with my 01 Boxster S was the MAF fouled. Took it in because stopped starting on the first turn of the key. The dealer replaced the MAF with the wrong part and it took over a year of back firing a couple of exhausts blown out and a motor replacement before they figured it out. Only the first boxsters had the Sleeve problem. Mongos comment was like saying 928's have #2, #6 bearing failure, nuff said.
The PPBB group sponsors a Texas Hill country drive in September/October called Boxstoberfest. It's like The Third Coast GTG at Marble Falls, but has around 150 cars show up from all over, 95% are boxsters.

I want a Boxster, but am torn between that and the BMW Z3/Z4.
I hear the BMW's are not as refined, but are more fun. The prices have dropped on those two models to the point where I almost cannot afford to buy one...as soon as I land a job.

Two pages and no one has asked the obvious question:
Why?
And, do I need to post twice? Or will Rennlist do it for me.
