Default GTS Oil Pressure - WHAT SHOULD IT BE?

GTS is new to me. Godzilla's pressure at idle is around 3, the GTS goes up to 4.8 but never higher, and drops to 1.5 or so when very hot ... is this normal? Using dinosaur 20W-50 now.

Sounds like the oil gauge is a bit off. I'd check the oil pressure reading from the mouse theater in diagnostic mode to see if it reads higher.

That is about the reading I see on my '92 GTS. The '94 seems to read a touch higher. Say fully 5 when cold on start up and 2 when really hot... That is on Synthetic oil in both.

With 10-40 syntetic Royal Purple my 87 S4 is 5 at start up and 2.5 in the Vegas summer heat at idling.

Mine is the same as James'--5 at start up and after driving around, right around 2 on 100 degree days. I was concerned when I test drove it (seemed low and there was a lot of discussion on here about throwing rods/bearings, etc.) Called Roger and he said it was normal...

Clean the sender connections. The harness connector is upside down and likes to trap crud.

H, i have seen some cars with the 4.8 max oil pressure reading and others with it pegged past 5 when cold, so i would say your OK on the oil pressure.
The 1.5 bar is also good , Take a piece of lamp wire cord and dip it down the dipstick tube, put the oil onto a black piece of cardboard and look at it in the sun, this will give you an early heads up about metal being made in your engine.
If it s an auto then check the flex plate

94 GTS...

Cold 5 bar gauge peg, as warms up just driving around 2.5-3 bar at idle. A few hot laps and idle is 2 bar. above idle always above 4 bar.

Heinrich,
'94 GTS, 76K miles. Nothing done to engine except new gaskets. 5 bar at startup, when up to full temp (about 10 - 15 minutes after water temp hits ~185), pressure is 2 bar at idle (650 rpm), and goes to 5 bar at about 2700 rpm and stays there through the rev range. Oil is Mobil 1, 50/50 blend of 15W50 and 10W40 with 11 months usage and about 4K miles.
'89 S4 with 126K miles is essentially the same with 15@50 Mobil 1.

What's the actual German slang? Maustheater? Surely not?
