Default 928 Frame

I have a question how repairable is a 928 frame?? Can the front be reconstructed?

The 928 has a unitized body, with no "frame" as such. The Factory workshop manual gives detailed measurements of the chassis, so Porsche expected it to be straightened and repaired.

there is a dimension guide in the workshop manual i forget where but it's definetly there. i used it a few times to straighten out a few projects over the years. the unibodys pull pretty easy on these.

It is usually possible to get all 4 wheels pointing the same direction. Possible to make it LOOK OK and sometimes it might even have the original strength. I tend to think it is like a cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels bend it once and it is predisposed to bend again. Porsche also sold replacement "frame " panels and complete body shells if needed to fix a crashed car. You need to really have faith in the bodyman and his abilities which may mean he is NOT the LOW bidder for fixing the car....

Most anything CAN be fixed the question is simply how much will it cost ...... The car was totalled it is STILL totalled and now gutted ! The spirit has left the body along with all the parts.

If 928 values will raise enough it comes financially feasable to fix almost anything. Already entire front ends have been swapped to save some. For example one ROW GTS had pretty bad accident and it received everything from windshield forward from S4. When done properly its virtually impossible to see what was changed. Problem is doing it properly costs more than most expensive GTS on the market today. Accident history cannot be erased and such car will always have substantially smaller resale value than fully original version.

Great starting point for a track car. Get it mostly true and the wheels all going the right direction and a simple cage will give you any additional strength needed. your just a motor and some seats and such away!

I'm not Jim, but a quick look in the price list I have with me shows the 928 "Body In White" part numbers range from $26,000 to $51,000.

Want me to try and order you one? :-)

Best cure is to chunk that thing. Its not worth it, its just a car, let it go.
