I don't know how things have changed in recent years, but I grew up and went to school in St. Mary's County. Leonardtown High School is probably the best high school in the county. No, I didn't go there. Great Mills seemed to graduate some of the counties best and brightest criminals and teen mothers. Chopticon, is where I went. I'll never forget the day I was sitting in class, looking out the window, and watched a bull impregnate a cow.

Be courteous to the Amish people and lift off the throttle when you pass them. Loud noises irritate the horses.

Default Move to MD

Get a "Places Rated Almanac" from your local library or on line at Amazon. I have used them on several moves and always found them to be very accurate.

Right now we're looking at St. Mary's County and Leonardtown, but we're keeping it open. I don't mind driving a little to and from work.

So does North VA/DC suburb traffic rival that of Los Angelos.
Or that of Atlanta.

6 lanes of go-nowhere during rush. Prime Prius or BMW Mini country.
Anything with auto-start where a stopped vehicle turns off the motor and restarts when one hits the 'creep-forward' pedal.

Nearly got caught in the 6 lanes of stop going to Frenzy last year. Took the local 2 lane roads and let GPS get me to the hotel.

St. Mary's / Pax River is far enough out that it's not on par with DC/LA/ATL, but it's still got plenty of volume to contend with along the main drags. DC metro is consistently in the top 10, if not top 5, of most-traffic-congested cities, though.

Ok, Looks like I'll be out some time toward the end of next month. How bad are the winters up there?

How's your Igloo building skillz?

Rarely gets snow around DC. I hear if it snows, they close up shop as the cars and the counties aren't well prepped for snow removal and road salting.
That's what I hear.

Winter here is a joke!! If they even forecast a bit of snow they'll close schools. There really isn't much snow. Given that, when there is any snow people can't drive too well - no practice. Be prepared for a bit of ice once in a while. You can come out in the morning and you'll need to carve out your car just to get the doors open.
