Did someone here buy this car?
http://www.burtonmotorsltd.com/web/1...6-Porsche-928s
I ran across this '86 5-speed in Albuquerque, NM and called to find out more and the dealer said it was sold today to someone in San Diego. Anybody here? Looks like a nice example and only 55K miles. I checked the mileage (Autocheck) and it appears to be correct..... If an RL member bought it, tell us more about it!

WP0JB0928GS862027 Looks like a nice car, odd it would sell poof with no price listed, but I guess serious buyers do make the calls.

Hi Brian,
I don't know EXACTLY how to tell an 86.5 from others. In the description it said it was a 5.0 liter engine. It had the wide "organ pipes" style of intake and was also described as one of the 288 HP cars...I'm assuming these are the most desirable of the pre-S4 (and to some ANY) of the 32-valve cars??

As Drew said, 86.5 is vin ending in 1000+, practical terms it means it has the advanced suspension and brakes of the S4, making it generally worth about $1000 more than an 85 or 86.

PorKen pointed-out that in a profile view of an 86.5, just in front of rear wheel, you will see a little downward protuberance that is the newer square jackpoint.

I missed the VIN before...since its a high VIN 2027 it IS an 86.5....so that makes the deal much better for the buyer.....
86.5's really are the best "bargin" out there in 928's.....just about all the upgrades of the S4 minus the bodywork....for substantially less $$$$

High end of price.
Would need to be current on maintenance for me to consider $8 k.
Specifically TB/WP, MM's, gasket, and intake and clutch. Most of those done, or at least a date of having been done.
A couple of us have experienced good-looking 50 to 75 Kmi cars, garaged and cared for, but needing the above.
A mechanic would charge $3 to $5 K to do the above.
If you wrench yourself, then you buy yourself leeway to negotiate up towards that selling price.
Desireable year and transmission, definitely.
