Default Weekend Drives

I really enjoy driving, sometimes I get up very early Sunday or Saturday mornings and just go drive 200-300 miles.

I take the long way to work many days, just because I can, and the route depends on the car I am driving.

Are you guilty of doing that?

I wonder if some one should start a phone/e-mail, internet "Database", if you will of car guys and girls, that enjoy doing just that.

I am not talking about getting a bunch of Corvettes only, or Porsche's only, or Mustangs only, or even the import guys together, but getting car folks that like to drive together.

So much of the internet car forums almost breeds owner disdain for other makes or models, I think that is just 150% stupid.

Just look at the Rennlist forums , 944 guys VS 928 guys, VS the 911 guys.

Or try the Corvette forum and see how some owners treat the C4 owners, it all just does not exist when face to face, from what I have seen.

I am sure that the same thing goes on on other forums, from the Z's to the MGB forums.

The reality of it is, when face to face all that goes away, at that point it is just car guys looking at the other cars, driving and doing what folks do in large groups.

From what I have seen, even the folks that do have reason to know they have a better car, are more cool that some that have no reason to think that way

As long as every body can at least try to get along, I think it would be a good thing, a short or long notice thing, does not matter, if you show up, you show up, if not, so be it, if you break, you got folks that like cars to help, or at least laugh and tell you they know a good tow truck driver.

I am talking about guys that just like the automobile, and the enjoyment they get from using the ones they are in at that moment.

Would anybody want to be on a local (or at the users choice non local) list that others could call and say, "want to go take a drive tomorrow"?

Thoughts?

I am going to ask others to post this in a few forums and see what happens.

Greg

Can't make it down to GA for a weekend ride, but I love driving my 928 (or anything else for that matter) early in the morning. I don't do it as much as I'd like, but when I do, its heaven.

So often these days driving my S4 is an exercise in frustration. So many rude clueless drives. I don't know why I can't just accept it and not let it bother me, but it does.

Anyway, early morning drives are the best. Besides the lack of traffic, its neat to be up before everyone else and feel and smell the air. Watching the world wake up. Its neat.

Reminds me of when I was a kid, we used to get up at 2:30 am Sundays to help my dad with his paper route (about 500 houses!). Talk about being up early and watching the world wake up. As tough as it was, we used to love it. Btw, before you think he just delivered papers for a living, he did the route 6 days a week BEFORE he used to go to his full time job as a dock builder in NYC - so he could support his family.

Plus when you get up early you have the rest of the day to get things done.
