At their own peril, I'd say! fF they made a mistake in PCNA's eyes, then they have to stand by it.

My suggestion is to start with the dealer and see what they are willing to do. Bring it to a local Porsche dealer if they want "neutral" eyes looking at it.

Keep pushing until you have a "final" answer from the Cali dealer, then explain the situation to PCNA WITHOUT mentioning what the Cali dealer said. Have PCNA tell you what "should" be done first, then tell them what the dealer is offering.

Good luck!!

They told me to drive it over to them ( funny).
I have to face it, no winner here.

why not? Based on what some have posted..a ground block at the water pump only increases engine temp by 6 to 8 degrees? Open the thermo earlier and it will cool.

Has anyone actually measured the reduction in flow?

The temp difference is at a particular ambient temperature. The bored block will cause it to overheat on a hot day.

Opening the t-stat earlier will start cooling sooner, but the decreased cooling capacity will keep it running hot once the t-stat opens.

Lots of variables to take into account, but what is the stock running temp of a 928 (lets say with AC on in LA traffic), what is the temp at which the 928 will overheat?

BTW... I'm not advocating not doing a block repair.. just playing devils advocate. There likely is a point where the block will need the insert due to decreased coolant flow and it becomes a cost/benefit/use kinda deal. No money for new block and can't afford the insert (how much is it anyway??)...just bolt on a new water pump add some waterwetter...and if you live in the NE you are essentially good to go...

Maybe remind them they are part of PCNA, not Joe's used cars. When I use a nationwide store, I expect nationwide service.

It would be a real service to the whole 928 community if you don't let this drop without a least a written response from PCNA.

I was planning on buying my next water pump directly from Porsche, but if they won't stand behind them, I'll buy someplace else.

Makes me curious, has anybody pulled off a water pump where the impeller is where it belongs, but the block has impeller damage?

Porsche dealers are not nationwide. They are individual, local franchises. They are not owned by PCNA. PCNA sets guidelines that the franchisee has to agree to and follow, but PCNA cannot micro manage them.

Generally true, but this likely comes out of the PCNA wallet and its not very practical to do anything with Rusnak in Cal when the car is thousands of miles away. This is just the sort of situation where PCNA needs to be in the loop.

Establish that the car can't be driven, and offer the Cali dealer the option to arrange for insured/enclosed transport to/from whatever shop they'd like to use. That may cause them to pause and think about the 'shop they'd like to use'.

You're dreaming. That's with slight damage. That block is the worse I've ever seen...I doubt it will move enough water to even drive it.

Greg,
Sorry to hear of your problems.
Dave,
Can you determine the origin of the water pump? If it was a Porsche rebuild it would be a plastic impeller. It is a long time since they were metal. Is it a Porsche casting?
Maybe they did not even replace the WP which is what maybe Greg is saying.
Very interesting.
Roger
