I would go with the 9" et 70 with 255/40 R17 all the way around and some spacers on the rear.

Default 9 inch wide wheels

I have been running ROH Sekta wheels on my 1980 Euro S for several years. they are 17*9.5 with a 60 mm offset. The edge of the rim pushes out past the fender edge but the 255/40 tire is fully contained under the fender. My car sith 12 mm lower than stock and I do not have any issues with rubbing. I could easily run a 265/40 without interferance concerns. The one issue I did have is the need to use 2 rack bumpes per side to keep the tires from rubbing ar full steering lock on the body under the fender. The Roh wheels may no be available any more I bought mine seveal years ago. BTW the effect of the larger tires on the fronts is huge, a much sharper turnin and enhanced braking.

Interesting I thought the 8" would just bolt on. If I have to make changes to get the wheels to fit I would rather just go to the 9".

That car looks beautiful. I have not seen those wheels before very nice choice.
My car is sitting low right now also about 10mm but I plan to raise it back up before I put brand new tires on.

Well I'm going to go pick up the 8" wheels in a couple of hours. The price is to good to pass up. I will tell you how much when I get back as I don't want to jinx myself. The 9" I'm not able to meet up with the guy for another 2 weeks as he's out of the country. I plan to buy both 8" and 9" and decide after some trial and error.

All you really need is a 6mm (1/4") slide on spacer. They are relatively inexpensive. The spacer just slides over the top of the existing wheel studs, then you bolt up the wheel. There is still enough thread on the studs for a safe, properly torqued connection.

Good to know the guy even threw in some I beleive 8mm spacers that he had.

So Drumroll......

I picked up 2 7" x 17 ET 55 and the 2 8" x 17 ET 70 Cup II wheels for $250 not a bad buy I think even with wanting to refinish 1 of the 8" wheels. The guy was running them on a 944 before he blew the motor.

I still plan to pick up the 9" and do an on car compairison so I haven't voted in the poll but I guess I vote both for now. I will follow up with my experience for those who are curious.

Congratulations Josh! Glad you got what you were looking for, and what a great deal too

A little cleaning and polishing on those wheels and they will look awesome with some 245/40's on the front.

17x9 fronts with 255 tires here. I really like the feel of the wider tire, but I do get a slight rub on the driver's side in a hard right corner with a bump. Passenger side is fine. If/when I get the fenders rolled it won't be an issue at all and 265s are a possibility. Definitely not a budget wheel though.

Mark L.,

What is the offset (et) of your 9" front wheels? Thanks,

I have the 8" wheel now and after I make up my mind on how to refinish them. Either keeping them the same or going factory match black. Is the general concensus that the 255 is fine to run up front?

Honestly not sure, but I believe they are 65. They are Sterling's old wheels and he wasn't sure either, but they were custom-configured for a 928. I think he worked with DR to get them built. Next time I have the fronts off I will do a quick measurement.

I love the color, is that a gun metal silver?

Paint or powder coated?

Did you refinish them yourself?

Reason that I ask is that I recently acquired a set of twists that are polished and need refinishing. I'd like to paint them, but am not sure of the prep work involved.

Any info you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks. -Ed

ps: jpNcos, nice score on the wheels, that's a real good price.

That was pordercoat in "black chrome" which was more like a metallic black/grey.
The powdercoat was very durable, and aside from a few chips didn't show any wear after 3 years of use. Brake dust would wipe off pretty easy.
