Default Interior color question

I just bought a 79 928 that has been sitting for about 6 years in the sun. The car looks like it was in nice condition when it was parked (94k miles), but the carpet colors are strange. It's green everywhere except places like under the floor mats and along the door edges, where it's tan. Is this a normal color or did sitting in the sun do a number on it? It was sitting in a Honda dealers parking lot(abandoned), so they don't know anything about it.

Here's a bad pic from the CL ad.

Dean. Welcome to Rennlist. I DO believe that you answered the question yourself. The original color is what was under the floormats, seats, etc. It looks like the color was Champagne. Contact Rob at the 928 Leather Shop in Detroit for replacement carpet. He is a sponsor here on Rennlist and will do right by you. I think a domestic set in black will run you under $400.

Thanks. I was thrown off by this car on ebay sense my colors are identical, and you can see greenish tents in it.

Yeah it has nice looking interior color wise and a great body. I might try some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders before I give up on it.

Maybe that was the reason they parked it there in the first place?

It's possible, but the car looks like it was in really nice condition before it was left in the sun.

A motor can be had for 600 to 800 dollars. Looks like a shame to part this car if the exterior is as nice as the interior. These older cars are vanishing before our eyes.

If I can get a motor for that price, I might go ahead and fix it. I'm really starting to like this car and would love to get it running. Other than some scratches on the hood, the body is nice.

Just swap the motor. $500 if you don't look real hard. I sold a running '79 motor for $100 and threw in a engine hoist.

The old owner could have used a shampoo or cleaner on the carpet and it was afterward it faded to that color.

You can possibly have the carpet dyed.

if your going to go to the effort to remove the carpet its best to put new in.
You might consider another color as well as all of the Cork color could be overwhelming.
Goodluck finding an engine, since its an early car if the water pump is good on your NEW engine IE the shaft is tight and not showing signs of leaking then put a new belt on it and run it
