Alan,

You may want to check with Dan at Exotic. He had some extra caps last I knew. May be better than tape... at least 'til you can get a new one...

I decided to just remove everything again to get a good look - lo & behold - no threads at all - just smooth 5mm holes. Fortunately I have a 6mm tap and it was easy & quick to tap these out. But check these out before you mount the bracket... Grr

Alan,

Sorry about that, your bracket must have sneaked thru the threading step some how, wouldn't you know the first one I miss goes to you.....Double GRRR.

Looking good!

David - well for me it was not a big deal, easy fix. I was just kicking myself for not checking it before I installed it... AND wait for it - I did actually read your instructions first...

You only get threaded brackets when you buy the complete SharkVent system....

JUST KIDDING!

Shipping AFTER the 28th won't be a problem due to current backlog

Alan, looking at the second pic in the post I quoted(#27) I would encourage you to drill some small holes through the plastic nipples inboard of the nuts, and run some safety wire across between the nipples to ensure that the nuts don't get loose inside the airbox.

Nice setup, BTW!

Dave - its a reasonable point and I may do that - however then you have a wire in there too... maybe a mini zip tie is better.

However remember the MAF does have a wire screen across the top and also the S4 air filter box has surprisingly deep wells on each sides (& thats where these are mounted) so even if the lock nuts fell off you'd have to be doing some spectacular cornering to cause these to go anywhere but laying in the the bottom of those wells. Here is the best picture I have of it - see in the holes where the lip is - its pretty deep and the sides are pretty vertical too...

So anyway I'm thinking maybe 2 holes 180 degress opposed on the threaded end and a mini zip tie looped through both holes would actually be good here...

Herman - since you will be going away and need to finalize the order with Dave - here's what I would recommend you get:

Provent unit
Dipstick Adapter with Provent check valve - Dave pre-assembles these (great)
Get the same 1" 'special hose' I got from Dave for the Provent input from Oil Filler (perfect)
Sharkvent Extreme filler vent port
2 x 1" to 1/2" reducers
1 x 1" 'T' fitting (possibly x3 if you plan to add the Air Pump blow-off, I'll probably do this later - if at all*)
1 x 1" elbow
1 x 1/2" elbow
Assorted hose clips as needed (or source your own)
Get the 2 caps for the vacuum ports on the filler neck. (but you'll actually need an outside cap for the small port also... Ask dave about availability of these)

That should be it..

* NB the Provent has a built-in blow-off (to Atm) valve - I think its probably good enough...
===============================================================

You will still need to provision all the cam vent fittings, check valves etc - but these are seperate - I'll make up a list later.

There are also some fittings and 1" and 1/2" hose for the adaptation to the vacuum ports at the oil filler again later when I've actually done it all...

Alan, it all comes down to what you're comfortable with, and I would not be comfortable leaving those totally unsecured. A ziptie does sound like a better solution.

Agreed - each to his own level of risk - (BTW I will do it !) - you do raise a good point that actually applies to the Sharkvent extreme more so IMHO... there is the same type of lock nut there (bigger) and on a typical install its likely if it came loose that it would fall right down the oil filler. There is a plastic shield at the bottom but it also has louvered vent holes... I don't think the lock nut would be able to fall down into the crankcase... But.. it sure would be bad if it did..

On mine there is a lot of copper in the way that would stop it and I have plans for a new lock nut that could never fit down the filler...

I also worked on my Intake & Cam Cover finishing today... I'd been waiting on some custom lettering in Yellow/Gold... they took a while to make - but came in on friday (thanks to Nicole) and today was the first chance I got to work on it..

I really like it - it matches my black & yellow color scheme... worked out exactly as I planned.. very happy.

First a before - then a couple after...

Definitely an improvement! Some awesome work there on the refinishing too. The letters really set it off.

Oh and BTW the primary reason to cant all the breather ports over to about 45 degrees was to better show off this lettering - both cam cover breather inlets per side will run to the back and stay below the "PORSCHE" lettering (drivers side is done - and this worked out fine). Yes its still partly covered by the intake tubes - but this really helps with visibility...

Now of course this allow for no sharp 90 degree bends or T's and allows dual porting all the way - but these are really fairly minor benefits...

On the drivers side I still have some further plans to flip the venturi porting to under the throttle linkage and then feed the brake booster vacuum around under the filter box for the same reasons... just work work work...

Dave - before I put it all back together I decided to add an additional zip tie strap between both ports (same on both sides). I really think the single one is on each port is adequate - but this is a more classical retention loop and simple & easy to do - so why not...
