Default Rear AC

Has anyone had problems with a rear ac vent that vibrates when the car is driven. The noise is getting annoying after a few weeks hearing it. My first attempt was to apply some insolution foam tape to act as a cusion between the vent and the center console it did not work at all.

Check your transmission mounts, they are likely compressed from age. Your rear seat backs probably rattle too.

the vent registers have small wave washers on them, you might see if they are still there, otherwise a small O ring with some Dielectric grease on it might work, thats not going to cure the vents from rattling though.
Follow Borlands advise as well

Minor correction... transmission mounts stretch with age, while motor mounts compress.

You can try to replace the vents as well.

to remove the rear air cover first lift the hatch carpet up, then facing the console from the rear of the car lean over and remove the 2 screws into the rear of the vent, (that the carpet from the hatch was covering)
Once this is done gently lift the rear edge up about 3 inches the slide it to the rear of the car.
Once this rear vent is off then carefully look for 2 more screws that are just behind the front vent and were covered by the rear vent. These hole are kind of poked through the covering so they might not obvious, Anyway remove these 2 screws and then lift the rear of the cover up and tilt it forward, then at about 45deg up pull the cover to the rear of the car.
Note the front grill/vents stay on the unit.
Install is the reverse of removal

What I should have said is the vents and rear seat back latching mechanisms on my car used to rattle too. I wondered how Porsche could have made and sold a car with this kind of defect? I also saw the nichols link about the screen rattling but nothing about the loovers.

So, when I replaced the original transmission mounts on my car with new ones, the rattling noises went away.

I did find a sort of a solution to the rattling rear ac vents. If you look at the vents from the bottom, there is a “bar” that slides along and aligns all the vanes together. I took a utility knife and pried that away from the perimeter just enough to slip a piece of thick electrical tape in the gap. It tightens up the vanes enough to not rattle and has the right amount of friction to keep the vents operational. Blissfully silent back there now.
