I've been debating about a clear bra for a while and the original plan was to have one installed. I'm still trying to find a good local company which can custom make it for a 928 since pre-cut pieces do not exist.

I do have two other issues with the clear bra. I've never loved the way they look and cleaning at their edges is a pain. I'm also not certain if concours will allow a clear bra without point deduction.

I plan on using painters tape at the edges of the vinyl type bra where it clips on the car to avoid any scratches. Since I won't be driving in rain moisture shouldn't be an issue either.

Anyone using the Colgan have any feedback?

I know 3M certified dealer and installer in PA that will cut the pieces for the 928 and ship them to you. If you're interested PM me and I'll send you the info.

Guys thank you for all of the input and Ted thank you for the pictures. Very helpful.

I agree that the clear bra is the way to go and I will probably work something out during this winter while the car is in storage. I want to touch up the front a bit more before having the bra installed to make sure it looks perfect. As others have done, I also want the rockers, behind the rear tires, mirrors and inside the wheel wells covered.

For now I'm going to pick up a Porsche Bra to cover the front until the clear bra is installed. Since Colgan makes the Porsche bra the fit should be identical and the only difference I am seeing is that the Porsche bra would support our parts suppliers.

That said I have put the film along the rocker panels I took a 6in wide strip and went from the mud flap to the rear wheel opening, it fits perfect on an S4 BTW.
I also added some the the areas of where the rear wheels would kick up stones on the rear bumper.
I also added pieces to the mirrors, the nose the hood where it rubs on the front rubber seal, the cam covers, and a few other places to prevent the paint from being scuffed, Also i did the fog lamps and the head lights
I agree and don't want to scare you. I have 3M on my turbo and i have removed it off the front hood a few times. It has saved my original paint many times. I had it on the car when I purchased it in 2003 PO had installed it in 1995. It was bitch to get off but these paints are quite durable. Repaints be very careful with.

New cars are another story. I have seen it rip paint off the front of Cadillac's fresh from the factory. Although I have been told 3M is working on adjusting the formula but don't hold me too that.

The other films do stretch better than the 3M and the glue is less aggressive but you should be fine. This is not an easy car to cover properly. The biggest issue is around the headlights. Getting that to line up properly and stretch around the opening is a real PITA. I had to do it twice before getting it right.

Afshin,

As far as touch ups be careful to make sure you make them blob free. A blob of paint under clear bra looks worse than nothing at all. It actually lifts the clear bra leaving an obvious area that does not adhere to the surrounding area and looks worse. Clear bra will actually mask some minor chips.

BTW how was the Concours?

I have the Venture Shield clear bra. It was pre-cut pieces, and has several advantages over the 3M: less orange peel, won't yellow and is supposed to protect better. Looks better on dark cars as well.
They are based out of Rockland near Rietzl Porsche/Audi. Call me if you want the hook up.
I have had it on since frenzy '07 and it the same as then; 2 years now.

You can't even see it in this pic.

928andRC51 - This is what I am considereing for my car after paint and a couple month cure (waterbased paint must be completely dry before waxing or paint protection film)

The Porsche paint/collision repair center where my car is being painted sells the same Venture Shield clear bra. They do have the correct templates to cut all pieces perfectly, so they say, and I must agree it looks very good on the few cars they had at the shop with it on.

What parts of the car did you cover with it and if you can, how much. It is expensive to bee sure.

Thanks

I have the venture on my C2. Equally as good. Although I found it not to be as good for my track car. harder to remove the rubber from the tires. But still a great product.

My touch up work is very good and never results in a blob. Trust me on this. It takes a ton of time and patience to do it right but it can be done. I do have a ding on my front fender and it sounds like I should have it corrected before I have the bra installed.

The concours was absolutely awesome except for the rain on the entire drive down. I have about 70 pictures which I need to resize. I'll put up a post in OT. Some amazing cars and a huge turnout of people at this event. I saw and sat in the Panamera and I have to say it is much much nicer in person. No trophy's by the way, actually only one of the early 50's Porsches received a trophy and there were some really nice cars being shown. I have a feeling the judges were biased towards their friends...at least thats what everyone was saying when a Delorean won most significant 1980 -1995 car (beating an F40 and a bunch of other cars). Oh and the 928 has a huge amount of fans, I was exhausted from all the conversation about the car.

I figured you knew about the blobs but I try to help where I can.

Glad you had a good time and as you know nothing is more subjective than a Concours. You win some you loose some.

I was at Pocono and the day before they had the panamera reporter test drive. My friend had a ride with David Donahue behind the wheel. He said it was even more amazing than he could imagine. It was far more impressive than many will believe. He said he felt like a giddy school kid afterwords. Never been so impressed by a vehicle as he had been with the Panamera.

Carl you bring up a good point. The orange peel is very bad on some clear bras and it really takes away from the look of the car.

I'll send you an email during the winter for the clear bra contact. I have a lead on another installer in Boston also which comes highly recommended. Waiting for a reply from him and a chance to see his work. I also have a lead on an installer in NYC which is suppose to be the best at custom installs.
