So I've got too many projects now and I've come to the conclusion that I need to let my 83 928 go. The engine is running, new fuel pump, have an a/t with about 56K miles on it waiting to be put in (old tranny is shot). I've done some interior upgrades, replaced the center console, rear quarter panels, have new dash and pod cap, new floor mats. The body is straight, good glass on sides and back. Lots of miscellaneous replacement pieces I haven't got to yet. The question is, should I just start dismantling it or should I put the wheels back on and sell it as is??

The thing is is that even in parts '83's aren't worth much. I know, I have one sitting. But the '83 model is a great first Shark for someone starting out. Easier to work on, solid 4.7L engine, bigger brakes, cheaper parts and plenty available. Performance wise, it's no S4, but even with an automatic, it's a lot of fun for not a lot of money. If the body and interior are decent, I say put the new trans in and put it on CL or ebay with a modest reserve. We need to preserve the breed or there won't be many left in the end. To me, it seems more OB's are being sacrificed to the "parts gods" than later models. Give it a chance to live once again!

It's "worth more" in parts but you've gotta do a lot of work and find buyers. Ya gotta ask what your time is worth.

In this case IMO you will get more for the car as a whole with the good tranny in the car.

There is not alot on the 83 cars which can really be sold for tons of money.
The only thing IMO is the engine being a euro. But with the way things are going it isnt worth too much either.

Wheels back. Not much difference in parting vs fixing from a project / frustration perspective. Sounds like this one just has a trans issue that lots of us could fix.

On the other hand, I encourage everybody to scout their areas for inexpensive cars that will never run again and acquiring / parting them inexpensively for the hobbyists here.

We've lined-up 5 in the tristate area so far that are too far gone to repair, yet chock full of parts. Total price less than $2400. If each of us looks at it that way, the intact cars get a chance and the really bad stuff gets parted instead and into the right hands inexpensively.

 

if its an 83 928S Euro with auto trans then M28/12= 300 hp
If its an 83 928 Euro with auto trans then it will be M28/10 = 229 hp
The engine code is on the front top of the block just under where the top rad hose connects to the engine. There will also be another number under the M28 portion thats about 6 digits long
