I'm hung up on the look of Louie Ott's wheels...w/huge rubber. But of course, he has widened fenders but the wheels are great looking and available in smaller sizes.

Oooooooooooooohhh... I LIKE those!!! VERY nice Dennis.

I really like the look of a clean 5 spoke wheel on 928's too. Was going to recommend the 997 18" or 19" Carrera 5 spokes to stick with a Porsche wheel... but...

Oooooooooooooohhh... I REALLY like the look of these!!! Would love to see them on a 928.

Simple 5-spoke, easy to clean, symmetrical, look similar to Cup I's, no 3-pc wheel bolts around the perimeter, cleaner than Fikses. I intensely dislike the full polish, so get them finished for painting and paint them German wheel silver. Plus the offset is completely custom so you don't have to run spacers. I'd run 9.5" fronts and 11" or 11.5" rears w/ 265's & 315's.

I really like HRE wheels. I have been in love with them ever since my first Performance Products catalog back in 86'... I would have not been able to let those wheels come off the car when it was purchased...

I have always been a fan of the cup II wheels, so I'd go "super sized" that way...
Some "super sized" Design 90s would work for me too...

But...

If money were no object, I'd personally take a Cup II wheel to Chip Foose and tell him I want these in X size and X offset. Or better yet, let him pick the offset and sizes front and rear. And I'd tell him to take a little creative freedom while keeping the "spirit" of the wheel... (at least thats my plan when I hit the Lotto..) A guy can dream right?

Good luck with your choice.

Rob, custom 1-piece wheels made on a CNC would easily be 10k or more for set of 4- youre talking about turning HUNDREDS of pound of aluminum into chips....AFTER paying for a solid model design file. If you want custom centers for 3-piece wheel, that would be more in the 5k range, and you can fix them if you bend 'em. I can do them either way- but you notice I have 3-piece HRE's on my car, because I can't afford to make them for myself, on my own equipment! lol...sad, really.
My car has 17's on it- you can get tires at the moment, but I see the end coming. My wheels have anodized rims and black 5-spoke centers, so they look a lot like the old Fuchs wheels. Not flashy.
Anyway, if you are really interested, I can look a at making some centers, or, if you hit the lottery, whole wheels...

Steve - Thanks for the comments. At what point does the cost begin coming down from $10k for a set of 4 custom CNC'd wheels? I ask because there may be some interest in a group buy if the price were to come down appreciably.

What I want is an 18" version of the Cup II wheels. 8.5 inch front / 11.0 inch rear at whatever the best possible offset would be. I'd want the wheels to be finished just as they are now.

Here is a picture.

CCW forged, $2600 a set... whatever offsets you want, and widths too.

Dan,

Mille Miglia made just such a Cup II replica wheel. Particulars were:

18x8.5 ET52
18x10 ET47

Front offset is not ideal, but works. They have been out of production for a number of years and are very difficult to find. Additionally, I have read some comments about them being soft.

I am currently in contact with a Rennlister who may be selling a set of these Cup II replicas. Crossing my fingers on that. My "dream configuration" would be to pair the 10" replicas on the rear with the rare 8x17ET70 OEM Cup II or the uber rare 9x17ET70 OEM Cup II on the front.

Like Rob and yourself, I don't like to venture far from stock and this combination gives more width and a larger diameter while retaining the factory look.

Attached is a shot of Mike McLeod's 89GT two owners ago when it had a set of the above referenced Mille Miglia replicas on it. For some of the real old timers on here, you may recognize the name of the owner at the time - Doug "Ziggy" Meredith.

Take care,

Jarrod

BTW- Gretch had two of the 18x8.5 Cup II replicas for sale recently. AFAIK, he still has them. The 18x10 rears are on his car in a combination similar to what I have in mind.

Rob and I are primarily interested in having stock looking replication of the Cup I and II's

Personally I don't want to have a wheel that looks like aftermarket on my car if it is possible to either widen the ones I have or, have new 18 inch versions made.

I did get them to mate my oem center caps to the new wheels. I didn't want the ccw caps.

I also wanted some 17" or 18" club sports, but had to give up on that idea. You can't have 10k wheels on a 10k car... (I do think of a good 928 as an $80k car of course)

Don't know about 11's. Let me do a little research as I know they made some sizes other than those I mentioned. I'll post back here and let you know.

Additionally, with any luck, in a few weeks I may have a wheel related post that will <booming announcer voice> SHOCK THE 928 WORLD!!!

Things are still coming together, and may yet fall through. Stay tuned, LOL.

I wouldn't want some mille miglia 18" on the car, they might bend, flat spot or crack from hard use and the pot hole you didn't miss. They would have to be heavy to be strong. The factory wheels are pretty light, and you could run the rare 9x17 et70 on the front with some 9x17 et55 on the rear. IF you can find some et70s. The list price is >$900 each new when I checked.

I'm still fantasizing (just fantasizing) about truly one-off 18" CS rims. Quite apart from being screwed when you bend your unobtainium rims, and given that I can't ever recall reading about someone having a single quartet of their own deign wheels being fed into a CNC machine, I assume this is absurdly $$$$$. Is it a $5K proposition? A $10K proposition? Mas? What is the economy of scale for 10 sets of custom rims? Anyone know aluminum wheel Econ 101?
Neez will make custom magnesium wheels to your design.

I had a set of 18" Mille Miglia Cup 2's. They sucked. Usually w/ wheels the saying is: strong, light, cheap - pick two. Well, the Cup 2's were initially cheap but they weren't strong or light. Then I spent $$$ repeatedly straightening them so they weren't all that cheap. I think they were made of lead. Avoid.

I talked to Dennis about the MANY problems he had with his 18" Cup II replicas....super heavy and "bend O matic" just from looking at a bump....

I've had good luck with OEM Porsche wheels and CCW's....a bunch of local racers are using these now

http://www.jongbloedracing.com/

But guessing by the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ of the cars they are on...were talking tall dollars
