I can remember being in SCCA, gridded with GT1 cars, along with a couple other classes that were a lot slower than GT1. Huge speed disparity. But that was just about the only way that we could stuff all the various classes into a single race weekend. Everybody wants practice time, and everybody deserves a 30 minute race. And everybody wants to start no earlier than 8 in the morning, have lunch at noon, and be packed and on the road before 4PM. So having packed sessions is really simple logistics and the clock.

As far as this Civic being out on the track with the ITE group, I think it's really up to the driver to choose the correct class and therefore who he/she runs with. even with that, SCCA should have pulled this guy after practice/qualifying if the car was that slow. Or maybe he had too many mods to make a lower class, and all they would 'allow' him to run is in that group. They are pretty good about finding a class for just about anything that has safety gear, it seems. Oh, and DE's can teach you a lot about car control, handling dynamics, etc, but they can't really prepare you for real racing the way real racing does. No more courtesy, point-by's, etc, once the green flag is shown.

But of course, my SCCA race experience is over 20 years out of date now. I'm sure things have improved A LOT since then.

Thanks Nicole! I cant remember If I responded, but your post was definiately warmly recieved by me.

I did feel an obligation to a certain extent to keep the Holbert car racing this season, due to all the support from the middle of last season in running with SCCA So, to a certain extent, I was treating the help as psydo sponsorship. This season was doing pretty well, and who knows what the outcome would have been this season, if it had not ended so abruptly. There has been such a pouring in of support, in all shapes and it really makes me feel great to be apart of this 928 community.

lets not forget this car gave a lot back to us 928'ers. It was in excellence magazine, it was in magazines before I owned it, it was on TV racing in SpeedVision and SpeedGT for 7 races, and some gave us some pretty good TV time. It was on the covers front and rear, of the California SCCA Magazine and in the SSF's calandar one year. It had run almost 8 full racing seasons, with it never missing a race on the schedule, with over 130 race days on the chassis. It did give fits to some in much more expensive racers, especally lately. Even for non-928'ers, it was a car that was liked by many, because of its history, its story, its design, look and use. It was a car that was a testimate to the design that porsche created, and sadly , somethings do come to an end. I hope to continue to race and race 928s, but that will depend on a few factors now.

Anyway, thanks again for your enthusiasm and help with my racing of the Holbert 928, and I hope I can find away back to racing and way the 928 flag high again.

You are known way beyond the borders of the US; even people on other continents consider you a 928-Superstar. That would not be the case, if you were sitting in a garage trying forever to engineer that mysterious "perfect" leprechaun-928.

I've been here on rennlist for about 9 years now, and have yet to see "the other guy" complete a car that we can see running and driving.

The Holbert car, on the other hand, was always real, and will live on in many memories, pictures, and videos - even if it is not brought back to life with its current chassis.

While we may not always agree with you, and cannot buy you a new race car, many of us can and want to help a little here and there, so the "show" can go on. See yourself as a 928-promoter and entertainer, and get back on your stage - the track!

Most of all, we are glad you escaped without major injury - despite skipping the HANS device (Please don't ever push your luck like that again! )
