928 , Panamera side by side
I took some pictures of the new Panamera today it is a stunning car, but it is a bit bigger than the 928
The interior is very nice, the seats are comfortable and with 4 people in the car it still felt roomy.
The rear spoiler was also cycled pretty cool how it works.
As far as what it will be like to work on the car when its 20YO there are quite a few aluminum bolts used in its assembly.
I saw the cam covers looking like they would use torx drive

Thanks for you input H as always a pleasure!
I thought the car was stunning, it is big, but still it has presence .
I think that I still like the 928 better, but then again its a different car, built to different standards in a different time.

I have to say in that color and from that angle it does not look NEARLY has hunch backed as many (dare I say MOST) of the pics I have seen of the car up to this point.

I think a lot of people compare the 928 to other drastically more impractical period cars and say, "look, the 928 is so much more practical than X model, which it competes nicely against from a performance perspective, but which competitor is far more impractical because I can't put a single suitcase into THAT model, but with my 929 if I only fold down the back seats and have it slide around, it might be somewhat manageable," and then say, the Panamera is ugly.
Okay, IMO, the Panamera is much more functional than the 928. For all the talk about how the 928 makes a great grocery getter (all things considered), or if functions well in multiple duties (all things considered), still neglects to appreciate that the 928 is not a more than two person car, practically. If you go to the grocery store and load up, you better not have passengers. A trip to home depot is ill advised.
The same thing could not be said for my 944 (may it live forever), which was much more luggage and cargo friendly.
The Panamera may not win many looks contests, but I think it's both capable and luggage and cargo friendly relative to the 928.
Such practicality--personality? functionality?-- is worth something, even if the same type of pure beauty (which then 928 has in excess) is lacking.
The 928 is very idiosyncratic, but you probably don't need to accept such "examples of character over convenience" in modern Porsche replacements. Ultimately, I think this tribute to function is a good thing.

When it was first introduced, people complained about how big the 928 was. Other cars were much narrower, and also wasted some of their length and width with useless chrome bumpers.
Today, the 928 is no longer big in any way. This comparison shoes it. Or put a 928 next to a Ford Mustang - it almost looks like a toy by comparison.

I have to say that the Panamera is growing on me, especially the profile and front. I like the interior but wish they didn't have a million buttons which look the same. The back end could use a refresh, maybe changing the bumper shape so it doesn't look so big?
I wonder what it drives like and if it is truly fun to drive. That could really make or break the car.
Nice comparison, thank you for posting.

The Panamera has grown on me a lot after seeing more photos. I especially like the Yachting Blue color shown in your photos--the Panamera has a color sensitive shape, it looks better in darker colors in my view. If the roof was a bit lower it would look a lot better but be less functional as a sedan.

He made a point to say the #1 problem with all three is their size.
My point? Just because every other new car needs Jenny Craig, doesn't mean Porsche should have joined the band wagon.
Yes the 928 was "big" compared to a 911 in 1977. So what?? The 911 of that generation was still very much a Volkswagen.
It's going to be fun watching this thing depreciate like the Phaeton.
Reminds me of this photo:

Hacker, you are too funny and obviously have way too much time on your hands! Where do you find this ****!
BTW. There will be a time when many of you will have seen the Panamera in real life and then grudgingly admit that it looks (PICK ONE: OK, Good, Not Bad, kinda Cool, etc.) Maybe even Heinrich will soften his stand on it too!
