Belly pan destroyed

Mine was damaged on the recent trip to the OCIC in Dallas. Roger had one for me there in a couple of days so I could install it before the ride home. I think the $235 Sunset price must be a typo. They haven't been that cheap in ages. If they are available at that price, I'd stock up on them. [EDIT: Missed that it was 3 years ago]

Bill-
No typo- That was 3 years ago, and I was surprised at the price, but if it was a mistake they honored it. Given the trends in Porsche parts over the interval, I'd bet they're a good bit more by now....

You might have seen 928 International's aluminum aftermarket belly pan. This is a very sturdy, high quality aftermarket part, but afaik you will need to use your old ducts to complete it. However, they might have some used ducts they could sell you with the belly pan.

Since you just got the car and a new pan is pretty pricey....why not wait a little and spend the pan $$ on some other, more important, things and worry about the belly pan when nothing esle needs fixing.

Now that is the single best piece of advice I have seen - of course I ignored it, which is why I have a brand new pan waiting to install. I bought it and it still sits in the store-room while I finish off the "should have done it first" stuff.

I like that "when nothing else need fixing" condition. Like when icicles are growing on the hinges of the gates to hell. Did you see that pig fly by? After I win the lottery... You know, same as 'never'.

Because I park my car on the lift and like to sit under it and gaze at the vitals whenever I get a chance, I do leave the bellypan off for long spells (months), but put it on if I'm heading out for some serious driving or a long trip. The bellypan took care of a jack rabbit when I was cruising along at 150+ in an open road race in Nevada. Mr. rabbit chose the wrong time to cross the road. The belly pan prevented him from poking his head up into my accessory belts and instead cut it off so it bounced harmlessly under the car and off down the road. He chewed up several large chunks of the bellypan in the process, but I managed to piece 95% of it back together with fiberglass resin. Then on the way to the Dallas OCIC, an 18" long rogue drilling pipe appeared out of nowhere about 100 east of Tucson and proceeded to tear up the bottom side of my car, taking off half of the exhaust, puncturing the floor in a few places, and squishing the shift cable and a tranny fluid hose fitting. Again, the bellypan prevented that pipe from spinning up into the front of the motor and doing god knows what damage, deflecting most of its blows. The plastic fractured pretty good but remained largely on the car, and I was able to drive away from the incident beaten but not broken. In honor of its meritorious service, I retired the old pan rather than try to patch it together again and let a new pan take over for it. Yes, right now the new pan is leaning against the garage wall all clean and shiny, taking a rest after the trip back from Dallas. But it's going back on this Thursday for a Labor Day weekend trip to Phoenix.

Who sells a new bellypan with the ducts? Or could the ducts be purchased by themselves?

Oh no - not this again!
A search here could find so many discussions on this topic... and you know I am one who doesn't agree with your assessment.
In a nutshell:
- lowers drag coefficient
- sucks hot air out of engine compartment
- cools motor mounts (ducts)
- keeps debris out of engine compartment
- adds extra time to repairs and maintenance from underneath

The ducts come installed on the plastic pan. AFAIK, they are not available separately. The purpose and value of the ducts is debatable. They appear to provide cooling air to the motor mounts! I have one good used duct (not sure which side -- they are not the same) salvaged from my old pan. You can have it for shipping if you need it.

Thanks Friends, valid points. I made my own very sturdy pan a decade ago but have not used it in over 5 years as to my purposes it does nothing except add weight. I prefer no chin spoiler as well, works great around town and in my opinion looks great
