Default Upholstery / Carpet DIY

I have a new carpet kit from Rob Budd.

While putting it in, since everything will be dissasembled again, I intend to use black marine vinyl from Overtons to recover some of the interior panels. I have other cars that need work, too.

In searching for other help on the subject of interiors and upholstery, I ran into this link on a hot rod site.

No substitute for pieces made by our suppliers, but for the die-hard DIY guys, it might be helpful to some of the rest of you as well.

I was looking at Rob's stuff just last night, my carpet is decent on the top looking but so brittle on the back that it really needs to be replaced. Did you get the 'domestic' pack? Let me know your thoughts, I thought the price was pretty good for the entire car at $350ish...

I too have been considering doing a new carpet in my '81... It needs it REALLY bad! Mine is bad on top and on the back! YUCK! Not like holes or anything, just REALLY faded and the backing is so brittle that it is turning to dust.

Looking forward to a report on this!

I think there have been other really good threads in the past that show essentially the time lapse installation of Rob's kits.
Mine is the velour kit, black. It looks very nice. Lots of parts and pieces, though.

The panel recovery should be interesting and probably not very difficult.
