Angry 1979 PORSCHE 928 STEERING LOCK MECHANISM

Hi:
I am new to this forum, and perhaps is not even the right one.
But here it goes and I hope that someone can help me.
I recently bought a 1979 928 thru EBAY.
I live in Orlando and the car was located in San Diego.
Bought the car, drove the car and everything went well...until the next day.
I ended up with a dead car in the middle of Central ave in San Diego!!
The car would not start again.
Called AAA (THANKS GOD!!).
I try to pull the key out of the ignition and ignition tumbler with key come out into my trembling hand.
Fly back to Orlando, have the car shipped by truck to Orlando.
Are you guys just adding the expenses?
Here is the problem:
I was told that to fix this 928 ignition I had to buy a new IGNITION STEERING COLUMN.
So I bought one and it was the wrong one. It was for a 944 and they don't like each other.
Now I am buying the right one, with the ignition tumbler.
However it came to my mind that I could circumvene the system and install a start button coupled to a central power switch, just like they have in racing cars.
Adding to that I would install a cutoff switch on the battery and NOBODY CAN STEEL MY 928.
I was told by my mechanic that there could be a problem with the STERRING LOCK MECHANISM engaging while I was driving.
That does not make sense, but what do I know? NOTHING
So, here's the KILLER...
HOW CAN I DISABLE, REMOVE, TRANSFER, BURY, BURN, DONATE THE STEERING MECHANISM AND GET IT ONCE AND FOR ALL FROM MY LIFE ERR... MY PORSCHE
Any help, idea, suggestion is perfectly welcome.
Ohhhh THAT FIRST STEERING LOOKS MUCH NICER.

first of all welcome to the shark tank.
I would suggest that you fix the ignition lock correctly.
You can buy a used column, but you probably only need a new lock cylinder.
If you can take some pictures of what you have it will make diagnosis easier and then the correct path can be found, good luck, you came to the right place

WOW! What a way to intro to the group! Hope things get better for your car quickly and that your future ownership is better...

The first mistake was buying such a cheap car ALL THE WAY ACROSS COUNTRY! There were probably equal cars in your back yard (figuratively speaking) if a little time had been taken to search them out, but that damage is already done.

Now lets get this car of yours working and working well so you can have a nice relationship with it... that will START (pun intended) by fixing it RIGHT, NOT hacking it together with a master kill switch and start button or some other such craziness. Do it right or part it out and be done with it!

You are in THE RIGHT SPOT to ask your questions (well maybe not THIS thread)... There is more 928 knowledge here than there is left in all of Porsche NA and AG combined!
