Anybody running 18 x 10", ET65: 265/35 - 18 on the front? '88 S4
Hey guys,
Anyone running 18 x 10", ET65: 265/35 - 18's on the front of an S4?
Any rubbing issues?
Any fender rolling involved?
I just got a new used set of twists, so I now have two complete 18" sets of various sizes and offsets. By mixing and matching I may be able to run 10" wheels on each corner.
I mounted up one of the 18 x 10", ET65: 265/35 - 18's that used to be on the rear to the left front and took it for a short test drive. So far it seems to fit fine. On full lock right, it does touch the shock spring and the lower a-arm. But, if I don't go full lock, it seems fine.
I think I got the suspension settled so I think I'm getting accurate data, but will drive it a bit more to see if it settles anymore.
Any input is appreciated, thanks.
Ed

And just as an fyi, if these work on the front, my setup would be something like:
Front: 18 x 10, ET65: 265/35 - 18
Rear: 18 x 10, ET40: 275 or 285 -18
Front: 18 x 10, ET65: 265/35 - 18
Rear: 18 x 10, ET40: 275 or 285 -18

And interestingly, the 18 x 10", ET 65: 265/35 ZR18's stick out just about the same distance as the 18 x 8 1/2", ET 52: 245/40 ZR18's that are currently on the front.
When I have one mounted on one side in the front, and the other mounted on the other side in the front, its amazing, it looks like the same wheel/tire combo in the way it fits on the outside side of the car.

Actually, I think, the 10" ET65 will be better for front due to "proper" offset.
Although, I'm gonna use 18x9ET52 as fronts, wonder what's the widest tire I can fit on those.

I tried fitting an ET65 10" wheel with 265/35-18 tires to the front of my former '86 once, it was bad. Unless you have new shocks/springs and your ride height is over 170mm, you it rub somewhere, either on the inside or the fender top or both. Event then, if you corner hard enough, it will probably rub.

This is wrong. An ET65 7" wheel is not the same as an ET65 10" wheel!

The 10" ET65 rim is better than 8.5" ET52 due to suspension geometry, but only if it doesn't rub anywhere.
It should sit around 32mm deeper in the well and stick out another 6mm (about the same distance mentioned earlier ) from the outer side.

Doncha need to run collars on the rack to limit steering so the tire doesn't rub at these offsets?
Check at 3/4 steering if the inside edge of tire doesn't rub against the upcurl of the sheetmetal at the back lower part of the wheelwell.

Cool, thanks for the input guys. Like I said, it appears to be only rubbing at full lock. I'll run it for a few days and see. I took a pretty aggressive drive last night to settle the suspension and it looks like its settled down to its normal position. Hard braking, hard corning, hitting bumps while cornering hard in both directions, no rubbing at all.
And also, no adverse effects on handling and keeping on center, no tramlining either.

Oddly enough, I kept a close eye on the tires nor the car itself and could not find any wear marks from the rubbing, so didn't worry about it too much.

I need to get some new tires before I go out for any real drives, the old Pirelli's are not up to it. Now that I've got the wheels and they look like they will fit I can order up the tires.
Hopefully in the next 2 weeks I'll have the tires mounted and an alignment done and I'll be good to go. Can't wait.
I'll definitely be in touch.

I've run a setup close to that for about 2 yrs now and get some rubbing on big bumps at speed with:
18 x 8 1/2", ET 52: 245/40 ZR18
