Default Is this 1979 928 worth $2000

So the story goes this car belonged to a little old lady who passed away and a friend gave the current owner this car 8 months ago. CO put a battery in it and drove it 150 miles to its current location and is now selling it.

Car is a green 1979 928 auto, 87K miles with a cognac interior. NO service records. Front spoiler looks missing. Co states interior is perfect, EXCEPT front seats are trashed but he has replacement front seats.

Won't be able to see it until Saturday but does not sound like she is worth $2000.

Any thoughts on a reasonable price?

that year shouldn't have a front spoiler.
How did a little old lady trash the front seats?
The car COULD be worth $2000, you live in Austin so there are MANY MANY people on this board who will PPI that car (or recommend someone) to tell you if its worth it or not.

No, Austin. The car in Albany is a Blue ext/buckskin interior 1983 928 5 spd. I have been trying to talk to the owner but he is hard to track down. Do you know him or the car? I like the color combo.

No, have no details on the car, Roger forwarded your e-mail to me and I checked out where the car was. 150 miles west of me. Might be a bit of a haul for a PPI. If you can send me his contact information I will try and see what details I can get out of him.

On the car you've posted, can you get anymore pictures and some of us can help pick it apart from there. I wonder why they have the wood in front of the tires in that picture, is the e-brake not working?

Unfortunately nothing more than what I got from him this afternoon (posted above). I asked for the vin # and he gave me some 10 digit numeric only series no where close to a vin format. Said he would check tomorrow.

The Albany owner has the car listed in craiglist wih an email only and responded once this week that he would call but have not heard anything back.

Who ever thought buying a car could be so hard?

Just make sure you buy one you will be happy with. It took me a year to find mine.

Early cars have a 10 digit vin. Carfax and autocheck sometimes work with them if you put 7 blanks in front.

number given to me by CO is 9289200026.

Also looked at left side photo and texas inspection sticker and registration expired mid 2007. Not legally driven in 2 years. Bad sign.

Blowing up the pic you posted the wheels are wrong for a 79, should be phone dials instead of manhole wheels, but that could be a plus. Also the front grill looks like it has some damage. But, other than that we need much better pics and different angles including the engine and interior.

Stay away from this one. He sent me some very far away shots and it did not look too good. For some reason he won't send me the interior pics.
