Mega squirt 4.7 L ?
I was asked about using a Mega Squirt on an 4.7 Liter with a green wire. Has anyone installed one of these using the green wire as the timing sensor? If so is there a check list of what parts to order and how much of a pain is it to set-up.

wildwestsydney had his running with the green wire.
Though for not much more, well bugger all really, you can ditch the distributor which is a huge bonus. Esp on a boosted car and go for COP, CNP, or EDIS-8 I use a 36-1 toothed ring on the front of the engine with a VR sensor. This is the best way to go about this IMO.
You can do it with the stock distributor, but again I wouldnt as there is more to be gotten with a better ign system.
As to how much of a PITA, it depends on how experienced with electrics.

If you bust your butt on it and are halfway decent with solder, heatshrink etc then you can build the harness in 1 day in the car. If you are not then plan on taking more time.

Colin, what would one expect to spend if installing a MS themselves. I am assuming that you need to buy all of the additional sensors as well as the COP's. This ring you have running off of your crank with the missing tooth, is this something you had made or is it something supplied by MS?

Edit: I found a refference to UltraMegaSquirt. It sounds much more refined than the standard MS-I and MS-II . Has it been released yet? It looks like it's been in developement for about 5 years now.

For MS go with Colins advice . On my 16V I used HALTECH , with the distributor ,mech advance locked down and a sensor on the cam sproket .And a MSD box It all looked stock . Terry

MS box if you assemble it yourself is $200.
Harness is $65,
Connectors needed $52,
CLT and IAT w/ pigtail $40,
WBO2 $200
36-1 ring I made myself, just had it waterjet cut. I think I have one maybe 2 more I could sell. $30.
VR sensor w/ pigtail $5-10 local junkyard.
Not sure about the COP units as it will vary depending on what you go with.
But it is able to be done for under $800 for the full conversion if you do it yourself.

So what's the final outcome of converting to MS? Is it for a turbo/supercharger application? Better fine tuning of the motor? Would you convert to MS just to get away from the porsche setup?
I've considered this converting my 86 jetta to ms, to run a turbo setup only because the factory / fueling / ecu is not up to the task, of managing the turbo. I'm interested in finding out why the 928's are converted as well? Sorry for thread hijack... but I just want to learn what are the benefits for this vehicle?
