Unfortunately Doug has been asked questions repeatedly and it seems if he can't answer them he just disappears. It's been shown on a few occasions where he says on thing on one thread and then another elsewhere. The oil that Doug espouses has never been approved for use in these and other model Porsches. Use at your own peril.

20-50 amsoil. 110 race days, one engine, 25 race days new stroker engine.

<sigh> 59 pages. And I don't believe the "executive summary" even as updated from time-to-time is sufficient.

I run 20w-50 Dino Juice in my '89 as well as some other non-928s. It's fine.

great article that brings up some interesting points.....

However as Dave mentions....every 928 owners manual recommends 20-50 oil unless you live in a very cold climate......that is what the engineers who DESIGNED the engine wanted..... & given the success of race 928's and street cars with 100's of thousands of miles using 20-50....I'll stay with that.....

10-60w does look very interesting.....thats what my M3 V8 uses & burns very little oil too.....kinda odd that a new design engine would spec such a "heavy" oil and still have all the variable cam timing...since I know some of the newer vario-cam Porsche engines MUST have lighter oil for the variocam to work?

Perhaps. If it has enough ZDDP in it.
That's what the thread 333pg333 post starts-off talking about. ZDDP.
We've covered it here in several threads too.

As there's no process (that I'm aware of) whereby folks on Rennlist can come to a consensus and/or agree to a list of specific oils according to objective criteria, these oil threads are going to be with use once or twice a year from now on.
