"yep, when I had my OEM converter set to 2300 brake stall, it came off the line like it had 50 more hp.
that was after a chipset, exhaust, all the foo-foo tuning stuff. made more diff than everything else combined. was also the cheapest thing I did w/my u boat.

Can you please go into a little more detail on this please.
This makes sense... There seems to be a lot of info on RL about replacing TC bearings and seals, though not much on how to make this adjustment. Is this done from outside the AT and how can i measure it? mucho thanks!
Would be interested in learning more about how to adjust the stall speed on the converter. The combination of 2nd gear starts, 2.20 rear and a low stall speed converter make a powerful car feel a bit sluggish off the line at times.
there are several ways to adjust the TC stall - shims to increase spring pressure so it comes in later, different impeller angles, closer impeller/housing tolorances.
there are also 3 MB OEM converters that already are tuned for specific stall speeds from mercedes, who makes the 722 series trans - 1350, 1600 and 2300.
U can call greg brown at precision motorwerks in anaheim, ca or ted at transmister in orange, ca for details. I think 928 intl has some info too. or just take it to a GOOD TC shop.
cost me about 275.00 to have the shims slapped in a few years ago.
I have a 2.20 rear end, and before I did the TC it seemed that mini vans could keep up for the 1st 50 feet off the line.. had to put an end to that nonsense.
after I did the stroker, it was too high. stall is impacted by motor output too. so if you add another 200 ft lbs or 100 chp, etc...
trick is to match stall w/the beginning of the power /torque curve so you don't waste power, or go too low so the motor bogs down.
for a stock 5L motor - about 2000-2200 is great, IMO
I am really happy with the car and I want to keep her, just need to increase the off the line power, and perhaps some growl... Not looking to race or hot shot it.
U can't get a blown 928 smogged in CA, unless you are in an exempt county or commit some kind of fraud, cause nobody ever got their 928 "kit" carb approved.
Sorry but you are wrong ....he is NOT going to get 30 - 50 hp from ANYTHING he does to the exhaust system...
He MAY get 15 to 20 MAX....but I doubt even that much with the early engine...
And Nitrous would probably be ideal for him for the occasional blast away from the traffic lights.....
All the best Brett
Hi Brett,
congratulations on being the most unoriginal guy in the world with nitrous, your car is only as fast as your bottle is full.
MSDS headers show gains of 15-25% on all of these cars. The exhaust system does wonders for these cars, and speculation isn't disproving that.
My masters isn't in math but my calculator tells me thats 40 or so hp http://www.msdsinc.com/exhaust_1.htm

so be careful w/"modded" cars out here...
he mentioned being in NY, so he may be able to get away with it?
