Default Cracked Frame! ARRRRGGHHH!!

After a complete new interior, all new rubber body seals, windshield, brake upgrade, suspension upgrade, wheels, tires, and a host of other stuff, the chassis developed 3 cracks.

I laughed all the way back from the shop, but when the reality set in got sick to my stomach.

The options are numerous I know, but I don't relish the thought of starting another project. I don't have the time.

Take it to a really good mig/ tig/ spot welder shop and let them do their stuff. If they were minor enough, I would consider repairing with fiberglass techniques.

BTW, showing some pics of where this happened could benefit the community.

Any older unibody car could develop these.

After welding, just clean with mineral spirits, let dry and apply primer/sealer and undercoating spray, and its back to normal.

This one takes alittle more time than money, maybe 4-5 hours including some farting around and waiting.

I had a stress fracture near a wheel mounting point in the unibody/frame on my '80. I was very fortunate to have Tass introduce himself, show me how to take it apart and he welded in replacements. I raced the car afterward without an issue. While Tass is quite the fabricator/welder and certainly not common, I would suspect you could find someone in your area to do the same.

Dibs on the seats.........

On the left side where the A frame mounting brackets meet the chassis and where the cross member under the radiator meets the chassis.

Here's a pic of two of the cracks. You can't see it in this camera angle but when upward pressure is applied to the left front wheel, the crack is visible in the frame itself and runs vertically the full length of where the paint is cracked.

Stop-drill it, weld it, apply undercoating and drive on. If you are cautious, add small patches for reinforcement.

The chassis is steel, not glass. There are already dozens of welds holding it together.

Be sure to disconnect your LH controller and EZK before doing any welding!

What a beautiful car Rob.

Looks like others have suggested some good options for repair. Hope your back on the road quickly!

If you need someone who can weld, I know some people. Sorry to hear that. MI roads are total crap...

Don't most race cars (if permitted in their class) weld all the seams for strength anyways?
That "looks" like a really easy repair, doesn't it? At least it happened on the outside of the chassis and not some where that requires the engine to be removed!
