My 89GT had linen seats and I hated them. They looked like they were always dirty and most of the time they were! Difficult to keep clean and looking good. TIHO.

I like the looks of the inserts in option #2, but the linen in option #3 is striking. As mentioned by others, keeping it looking good will not be so easy. Which ever way you go, your car will be something very special when completed.

If you ever saw Dan's 944, you'd know that this is not an issue. Looked like no one had ever sat in it. I loaned Dan my VW one day and it came back cleaner than it had been in 5 years.

BTW....If you choose the linen seats, can we keep the original seats until I'm done with the car? I can get linen dirty by looking through the window!

Thanks Heinrich. Has a lot to do with the company you keep. Greg B, Paul C. and Ronn Ruff of McKenna Porsche Paint will make me look good just by doing their regular stellar work.

I kinda like the idea of this being a purely designer 928, super painter, master performance guru and exquisite leather craftsman. I will keep this car and pass it on someday to one of my daughters. In a future without me people will remember this car and the names of those who applied their best efforts on it Ron, Greg and Paul. The fact that all three contributed to the execution of this car will be notable. It is notable to me now and perhaps a few other Rennlisters too.

Cars are not just things to me. They represent the efforts of thousands of people from around the world, they are artifacts that represent the pinnacle of the industrial age. They are iconic and I am always delighted to find the humanness of their existence through the touch and thoughts of those who assemble them, maintain them and ressurect them. I was delighted when Ron sent me pics of the back of the car after he removed the bumper cover. There written in the unfaded paint was the handwritten script of the painter.... Turkis Metallic (turquoise metallic). It was great to have a connection to that person. Would be wonderful if there was some way to track down the Porsche employees who touched my car at the factory that day.... to let them know how much their work and their car is still appreciated by me and other 928 lovers.

So Heinrich, classy options? You bet! I am fortunate that I live in a time, a place, where opportunity to enjoy a 928 must certainly be reward for some previous good deed. Though there are some who rue the day they bought their car, none will ever forget these cars or when many years from now when they are truly scarce, they will fondly tell others "I had one of those once".

I am eager to get to OCIC and meet many of the people who reside here on Rennlist. I do hope to meet you Heinrich. I have several friends from SA and they, like the Kiwis and Aussies, seem to possess an inordinate amount of resourcefulness and fun in their life. Seems much like all Rennlisters.

Have you considered going with a mono-colored interior in all green, maybe with black French seaming or piping?

Click on the links in my signature to see my own single colored interior for reference.

And don't miss this one: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ne-94-gts.html

Dan thank you I don't think I'll make OCIC, but am still looking at options. Yes, South Afrians are people who grow up with respect for the automobile, I really miss that about where I've lived for 14 years. My dad taught me to enjoy and savour Porsches, and all cars, that way. You reminded me of an enthusiasm I hadn't seen in years. . My dad was a man who would pull his Jaguar wire spoke wheels apart and clean the spokes one by one. Or, take his flute apart in what appeared to be a bazillion pieces spread out over a large cloth ... again, just to clean it. Some of my fondest memories of him are the Sunday afternoons when he and I applied leather conditioner to the Porsche's full leather interior, and much later, a spirited drive in the Targa. I often wish I could experience that again, just once.

I think it was Paul Champagne who once, a few years back, created a placard from a post I had posted to Rennlist about the 928.

Here are a few more for Dan to drool over...

Note the painted speaker grilles. Some people also have the door lock **** matched, or the door vents...

I sent Dan more color options than he posted in the poll. One was mono-color Green and another Classic Gray (the classic gray was the least work as it is the interior of my GTS). I think Dan is wanting more of a custom look than mono-color hence the two tone and accents.

The charcoal gray and green are almost the same tone. The linen is much lighter and adds contrast. That's why it is more stunning.

I also did a shot with the door closed to show what it would look like with exterior color, forgive the crepe myrtle blooms reflected in the door...

Very well written and very much how I feel about the older automobiles (pre 1995).

I think older cars are now part of our history, some of us have to take the time to restore and maintain them to insure future generations can enjoy them. 928's are especially rare in the grand scheme of things, production numbers are very low as compared to the majority of cars built during the era.

Linen leather isn't too difficult to keep clean, its the carpet thats a pain!

Can't wait to see the completed interior!

Dan,

Well, you know the color preferences for "my eyes", but I voted anyway. Still like the concept shown in the third option the best. That with the Koa inserts will be "perfect" for Kauai (Ha!!).

Cheers,

Gary Knox

Nicole - RKD beat me to the response with the fine pics he provided of the other options he delivered to me. Just great work RKD. We used some free web collaboration software from Adobe called Connect to share ideas in real time. Think Skype with the ability to screen share and post large files. Very awesome stuff and again it is free for up to 3 way conference. You can also convert files to pdf as well as use Buzzword (word processing application - think lightweight Word). Go to www.acrobat.com to use.

Gary - I do hope you can bring your Koa wood panel to OCIC so Paul and I can discuss it. Couldn't really model it without high res pics. Put I am still considering that as well.

Heinrich - I do hope you will be able to make it to OCIC. Glad I touched a sentimental memory for you with your dad. I assume he is no longer here. If he is, my apologies, if not, then we share similar loss. My father loved cars and passed it down to his sons as well. He passed away when he was 54. A great character and full of life and he loved his esoteric cars as much as, differently than, his kids (VW bugs of many years, old Buicks, an avocado green Pontiac, and his favorite of all time, a custom 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 cu/in (5.6L) with factory race options and Hurst 4 speed). The Duster was custom painted at the factory in big bright purple metalflake with black vinyl top. The build sheet had the autographs of the Mopar team who had hand assembled that car. It was one of one.

The Duster was totaled late one night after breaking down on the side of the freeway in Los Angeles. As my dad was bent down changing the right front tire he dropped one of the lug nuts. It rolled between his legs and he turned around and duck walked (as he described it) to retrieve it. At this moment the driver of an 18 wheeler traveling 70 mph / 113 kph fell asleep and drifted into the emergency lane. In an instant the Duster was, well, dusted. My dad, cussing as he duck walked to retrieve the runaway lugnut was unscathed. He never missed that car but he held pics of it in his car photo album (factory delivery day, pics of me and my siblings hanging out the window of it and also of the post accident carnage). A couple years ago his birthday came by, it had been many since his death, and I was sharing that photo album with the grand daughters he never got to meet. I pulled out the carnage post accident shot to look at it more closely. I noticed he had written on the back "Lost one of my nuts but it saved my life!" Made me laugh so hard I cried.

So Heinrich in this electronic age the one thing we shall miss is that physical connection to these cars as we type on our keyboards. There will be no funny comments found years later on the back of faded pictures from this time. Kinda sad in some regards, but also why I enjoyed seeing the pencil written note on my car.

So time for the grand reveal - Like the majority here, I enjoyed the different options as posted. Each for their own unique designss. Just something luxurious about the dark charcol dash....console with charcol bolstered seats with turquoise inserts, piping, carpet and contrasting door panels that really appealed to me. With wood accents it would be even more stunning. But alas, dark interiors here get incredibly hot. But after RKD worked his magic with the Turquoise dash....console with Linen seats/carpet and door panel inserts with turquoise accents, I fell in love with the striking cleanliness of the design. So option three is close to what will be implemented.

Thanks to all for participating in the poll. Has been fun to share some of the process with you.

it appears I am in the minority.....but I just don't like the "linen"..... however the charcol-green combos both look VERY nice.....
