The cable is not too tight and the switch makes a click when the throttle is put back at idle.

Would coil leads cause rough running or just half the engine to cut out?

This problem effects driving as well, could that still be the isv?

"Would coil leads cause rough running or just half the engine to cut out?"

It seems logical that having half the engine dead might cause rough running.

It takes five minutes and no money to check and clean the coil wires.

I pulled the leads off and they are clean as a whistle. I get no popping or backfires in the exhaust so it would seem as though if the problem was ignition related then there would be. ..?

While there are dozens of possible causes for rough running on the LH cars, poor connections on the coil wires are the #1 suspect. That fault will cause rough running, often at any speed. Rarely backfiring (popping thru the intake) or afterfiring (popping thru the exhaust).

Finding any other cause for rough running can get to be frustrating and a real learning experience in the area of troubleshooting. Try to avoid the temptation to throw parts at the problem.

I am really trying to resist throwing parts because the expense is a deterant! I pulled the coil wires out and they were very pretty, no corossion. My caps and rotors have rough black marks on the contacts, my wires arc too. I am replacing the wires next weekend, but the car isnt running yet, do I need rotors and caps as well or is that normal?

I also tested the Temp II sensor electrically, which tested ok.

Trying to remember what I have done so far.

I cleaned my grounds, but they were pretty tidy so I dont expect much change.

It would runn clean then rough then clean randomly every few seconds.
