Randy,
Sorry - my error about the "radiator" - meant to type windshield!! I corrected it in the post.
Also, Scott's suggestion on checking/replacing the cabin filter is a good one. These do get dirty realtively quickly. A bit expensive to replace - probably $35-45 - but worth it for enhanced air flow.

Cabin pollen filter is clean, heater valve operating properly.
I've added one can of pure R-134a so far. Engine running, front AC on, set to max. I forgot to turn on the rear AC during this initial charge.
Immediately after adding first can, the front center temp got down to 48 F (ambient temp 80F - recommended system pressure 40-50 psi at that ambient temp). Front temps measured at center console vents.
System pressure did not get all the way up to recommended level before the can was empty, so drove to get one more can, running the AC there and back.
Upon return, read front temp again - AC is now at only 54 degrees.
Prior to adding second can, read gauge and see that system pressure goes up to approx. 55 psi when I turn on the rear AC, while running the front AC.
Also, front temp rises a few degrees when rear AC is switched on.
System pressure drops to approx. 35 PSI when rear AC is turned off. Front AC temp drops when rear AC is turned off.
Is this normal condition?
Seems I need to add some more R-134a to get cooling temp lower, but do not want to exceed recommended max pressure as seems to be occurring when the rear AC is also running.
Any suggestions?

I think you need to know what the high side pressure is before you can determine what's going on... if the low side pressure is high and the high side is low you may have a compressor issue - but if the high side is also high - you may have already overcharged the system.

I think I have been successful.
I took the car for a run on the freeway and recorded front vent temps of 32.3 F sustained.
It dipped down to 32.1, rebounded to 32.5 and then held steady at 32.3.

Now you're ready...
Coincidentally, I'm about to (finally) start on my major A/C overhaul. Must get done in time for the OCIC.

Thats just about right for San Diego ambient temp. Out here in the AZ. desert I got mine down to 37 and was using the guages to check pressures. Good job !!!
