Default The official 2009 DFW 928 OCIC "get 'er done" accountability thread

I'm sure I'm not the only one looking at the calendar thinking, "Crap! Only x days to go and I've got y to do by then!"

You know that the only way you're going to get all that stuff done in time is to get organized, prioritize correctly (i.e., 928 takes priority over family, friends, job, etc. ), and then keep at it.

And maybe we need to help each other out by going public with our action lists and then holding each other accountable.

I'd suggest listing everything you want to do and then editing your post as you complete the various tasks. Posts to hassle anyone not making good progress are encouraged.

So, without further ado, here's my list (as of 08-Jul-2009; I'm probably forgetting some stuff):
  • check flexplate and release tension, if any (status: completed July 5)
  • replace brake pads and brake hoses at all four corners, bleed, etc. (status: completed July 19)
  • major overhaul of entire A/C system (status: completed July 28)
  • fix minor exhaust leak on X-pipe (status: pending; all parts on hand)
  • replace coolant (status: completed July 27)
  • general tune-up (status: pending; all parts on hand)
  • replace rubber fuel hoses (status: pending; waiting for parts)
  • replace fuel filter (status: pending; waiting for parts)
  • fix cruise control (probably inop because of all my LED lighting; Borland has a thread on this issue that I'll be referencing; thanks, Borland!) (status: pending)
  • check vacuum integrity (status: pending)
  • detail (status: in progress as of July 29; need to order some stuff)
  • flush PSD (status: pending; will probably defer to post-OCIC)
  • replace studs on front wheels with slightly (~6 mm) longer ones because of spacers (long story!) (status: pending; will probably defer to post-OCIC; parts on hand)

  • Drain coolant (complete)
  • flush system (complete)
  • refill with Zerex G-05, distilled water, and 2 bottles Redline Water Wetter (complete)

Like how I made one job look like three?

Just got a delivery notification from Roger for both block drain plugs/seals, radiator plug, and coolant reservoir cap. Should be good to go for doing the job Saturday morning.

Since I am not driving, the list of things to do on my car(s) isn't really relevant.

Instead my list reads:

1. FIND PASSPORT
1a. Clean out 944 & search
1b. Clean & organise office/study & search
1c. Clean & organise bedroom & search

On failure of step 1.
2. PANIC.

On success of Step 1.
2. PACK.

I wish you success, then. And looking forward to meeting you.

Ed,

You are only coming down from KS... Heck that is a 3 hour drive in a 928...no big deal bro! Now it is always nice to tell your 928 buds all the wonderful things you did for your ride before the trip, but if the car is running even halfway decently man you have a short afternoon of driving and YOU ARE THERE!

That said, my R/V is taking more time and more money to prep than I would like (it is my only tow vehicle for getting Blue82 onsite). All other cars are ready to roll. Except Euro '92 GTS...17 year old girl hit me and it seems unlikely the work will be complete in time...we are still hoping though! Had a big spring of catching up on over due work. They are running like tops now...though '81 needs a 75 deg T-stat and fan switch... all highway between me and the convention center so I am hoping I won't have any over heating problems.

Can't wait to see everyone!

Wish my car would be done in time too, as it would be great to make that trip. But maybe next time I can do it.

1) Drive to California and get my new car.
2) Take the long & winding road back to Texas via Colorado.
3) Stand on street corner w/ begging cup to pay for above.
4) Make loan from bank to finance trip to OCIC.
5) Send Randy as my stand in and TAKE A LONG NAP!

Think you've got it bad. Huh. No flights booked, no hotel booked, no OCIC booked, Passport being renewed don't know when I'll get it back - give me three days to go and I'll get it sorted and get there.

If you’re flying into the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, our complimentary hotel airport shuttle can transport you the nine-mile journey. It operates daily from 6:30am - 9:30pm. √

Be sure to check the US entry requirements. There is a visa-waiver program with Aus, but Customs/Border Patrol (CBP) requires either a visa or advance travel-authorization (ESTA).

Gotta Change brake fluid
top off transaxle fluid
re-attach stupid crappy hood liner that I'm just going to take off when I buy a new one anyways but it keeps falling off because it sucks
Get good tire off bad rim, put it on a good rim and balance it (pain in the *** rim cracked)
And, uh, that's it? Hopefully, fingers crossed.

My list:

1) Join 928 Owners Club (done)
2) Get Mother-in-law plane txs to Kauai to help with 1 yr old while away
3) Get plane txs LIH-DFW-DFW
3) Register for OCIC
4) Get hotel room
5) Confirm there is shuttle from DFW to hotel

Questions
1) How will I recognize anyone? Will there be name badges to include Rennlist name?
2) I am planning on not renting a car - hoping for rides in other's cars if possible
3) Would it be too forward of me to buy beer/wine for everyone one night? (just checking to see if anyone is reading this.... I am serious though) Know the Europeans, Aussies and Kiwis will most appreciate
