Default Searching for the elusive "Cup 1 Wheel" - Found!

Hi Everyone,

I have done some scouting around and the Cup 1 Wheel for the 928 is an elusive creature! I was warned on this forum that would be the case, and it is true.

Additionally, after reading Phil's "NEW WHEELS FOR YOUR 928"
http://www.landsharkoz.com/forms/928wheels.pdf
it has become apparent that finding Cup 1 wheels with the right offsets is even more important and difficult.

I do need to get new tires for my '88 S4, but I would like to get Cup 1 wheels too....

VTY,
Joe Taylor

Welcome to the madness of 928 wheel offsets.
A set of easier to find D90 16" 928 wheels are a good choice too. 7.5x16 et 65 and 9x16 et 52.

Well be warned about the knock off porsche wheels, as alot of the offsets are not correct. Yeah there is a guy in Nashville with a set of D90's rims and tires for like 600$.

dont be concerned about all the hype on alot of these pages.

I have run the common 52mm offset Cup 1s on all my 928s at one point in time. I have little to no trammlining. No more than factory really. We do have some VERY grooved roads from our semis, and soft tarmac. I have even run as low as a 45mm offset on the front without too much issues.

Alot of the problem comes from a poor alignment job. So if you make sure that you get a proper alignment then you will be much happiers and far less likely to run into any problems.

Cup 1's are nice (I have a set somewhere) you might want to look into more modern Porsche wheels. Quite a few of us have picked up OEM take-off 997 wheels from ebay or some dealerships. You can usually find a set with new(er) tires for around $1,300 - like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-F...Q5fAccessories

The offset's are more 928 friendly than aftermarket Cup 1's, they look great on every year 928 and they are 100% Porsche quality.

Either way, fronts have Fusion ZR1 with fair tread and rears are Sumitomo almost new.

Hi Iccy928,

Smiles, I understand the feeling.

The avatar photo is of me, this past June, when I was driving the newly purchased S4 back to Ponte Vedra Beach (Jacksonville, FL area) from Atlanta. My daughter was driving my Acura RL and me the Porsche.

We had stopped for a dinner break and a guy walked up to me in the parking lot and asked, "Is that a Porsche 928?" She took the picture of me talking to the guy. Later she told me I had a "fan club" of one! Haha.

I was bushed and hungry, so the look is there.

VTY,
Joe
