Got rear-ended, questions about repair/replace.
I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the interstate about midnight Wednesday, due to a double fatalitily accident a few miles up. After about 30 minutes, the guy in the SUV behind me, who had been behind me the entire time, decided it was time to go. Obviously it wasn't, since I didn't move, resulting in a busted taillight and bumper cover. He couldn't understand why I was pissed at him. ????
Obviously the taillight needs replaced. I'm pretty sure I want the bumper cover replaced too. There is one spot below the taillight where the bumper split and broke through, and the paint cracked and came off as far over as under the passenger tail light.
Am I in line refusing any repair of this bumper and demanding that i be replaced? Is the structural integrity of the bumper cover compromised to the point that the paint will just keep coming off?
If the bumper cover can be repaired, how does the crack/split need to be repaired? Fiberglass filler and sanding?

I'm sorry to hear about this! Tailgaters and sleepers are major reasons why I don't drive my 928 every day. I would be at least as mad as you, if this happened to me.
The original S4 bumper cover is no longer available. If you need to replace it, you can either try to find a used one, or go with a new GTS cover and the reflective strip. In the latter case, it will be immediately obvious that you had the cover replaced at one point; therefore I think the used option would be better.

Sounds like you didn't get hit that hard so probably just replace the cover and tail light....By the way the paint came off looks like its been done before. The factory paint holds up better than that.

if you look closely at the pic you will see that it already has been replaced once.
That is a GTS cover, on a S4 shell.
It can be repaired by plastic welding only. And then it is only as good as the welder.

Woohooo. New GTS bumper cover.
Get someone feisty to fight with SUV moron's insurance.
And make sure repair shop understand about how to mix very very good flex paint for the cover.
Sorry about the hit. And it's not an accident cause it drove into a stopped car.

Get another cover, insurance will more than likely only pay for a used one and painting to match, I know, happened to me last year. Make sure to replace the bumper shocks when repairing, as they are one time only devices.

Definitely have it replaced. If they offer a used one I would make sure you tell them it can't have any dimples otherwise you will reject it.
Bummer on accident, can't believe the guy didn't understand why you were pissed. Seems more and more people consider cars an appliance only and not much else.
Hope everything gets straightened out quickly.

Good luck with the repair. This is the reason I'm scared to make the 928 a daily driver.

I would take it to the best local shop and let them sort out the repair estimate with a clear understanding that you wont accept less than making it perfect.
Every time I talked to their insurance I would be rubbing my neck too.

I had a similar problem last year my insurance policy under Geico would not cover the cost of replacing the cover because of the expense. The cover had a hole just under the area were the paint peeled off.
And after
