I always smile when somebody says you can't go wrong in reference to an old 928.

Its very easy for a $1500 S4 to be a worse deal than an $8k S4.

[If] Its more or less all there. You buy it. Get it home, decide its too far gone to bring it back to life. You sell if for what you paid for it. Or, you part it out for what you paid for it, or more.

Be hard not to part out for more than $1500 if it's all there, dead or not. If the car overheated to the point of not running, could be a simple head gasket, could be complete rebuild. Still $1500 for a core is good.

Just selling brakes, rims and headlights would get half your money back...
