Thanks Chuck. That confirms it - I got alot of conflicting info on the post cover - wish I hadn't bought one. That weather strip keeps it dry in there.

Is the weather strip in tact? I took mine off b/c the soft rubber had fallen apart and stuck to the hood. Unfortunately, you can no longer get that long piece of weather stripping. It's the exact same piece later cars use only difference is they use a piece about 4" long.

It's still perfectly intact. Not sticky and not sticking to the underside of the hood. The whole engine bay is in pretty good shape for a now 52K car - it looks like it hasn't gone thru too many heat cycles. Most of the plated parts still have the plating on them. I think the miles have been fairly "easy" miles.
