Where do I find info on factory stereos by year?
I have an ongoing quest to accumulate all of the original equipment for my
89GT. Where can I find out which stereos were avaiable for the 89 model year?
I currently have a kick-*** aftermarket system that was installed by a PO and although I would never install such a system myself, I have to admit it adds a lot of fun to highway driving.
I just want an original to put on the shelf with all the other parts needed to return the car to factory stock.

Dave-
The hassle with stereos is that multiple options were available in each market each year, and I'm not sure if they're clearly documented in any factory literature. Sounds like a good project, since some day a functional, original radio will be worth more than any aftermarket unit, no matter how many dolphins swim across its faceplate.
Just found this site, looks like they list some radios by year. For '89 looks like they list either a Reno SQR46 or a CD-2:

The 311-mile 89GT looks like it has a CD-2 in it:

Dave my 90 has the CD-2 and its listed as a separate option. As noted, check the options codes to determine what your 89 came with.
Rob your right on the money with your comment on the working OE radios, the CD-2 is already worth more than most aftermarket stereo's with exception to maybe the real high end Nakamchi & Denon. I'm hopeful that someone will figure out how to fix the CD-2's which have CD Player issues and parts which are NLA. Mine still works but it does have ocasional glitches which scares me.

Mine is exactly the same way, I pulled it while it still worked. It's going back in the GT at some point. The factory harness that connects to the CD-2 is also NLA, so once some stereo installer has hacked the wiring, yer done for originality...
