Gio this comment is not aimed at your video in any way. I've been thinking about the exhaust note of my own car. With the pumpkin removed my car sounds like a loud obnoxious muscle car. I really liked the sound at first but it's been annoying me lately not to mention the sound is like a cop magnet. So here's my question for everyone. We drive a super car or it was at one time. Shouldn't the car have a refined sound and not just a megaphone or blown out glass pack sound? Not that I expect it to sound like a Lambo or Ferrari but their exhaust sounds a bit loud but finely tuned shouldn't we expect the same thing from our fine cars?

Jason,

I love the exhaust note on my car. Before I installed an x-pipe on my ex 88 Auto and it sounded good. Then I installed an RMB and it was way too loud. I got my 89 with an RMB that sounded fine and now it sounds awesome with the x-pipe.

There's no right answer to that. It's owners preference, and of course state guidelines. I prefer the SBC idle with the German Bwaaaah from 2500rpms up. The car has always been a tiger, I just let it out of the cage a little.

Also I get a lot less folks F'ing with me at stop lights with the loud lopey idle.

I agree it's just a preference. This may be sacrilegious on the 928 list but I can remember the first 911 I drove. The sound was fantastic. It was smooth and refined. The sound was unique and you knew when it went by it was a Porsche. When my 928 goes by I'm sure people think what the hell was that loud car? I know this discussion is probably stupid it's just been on my mind lately since I've been working on the exhaust bolt.

Here you go...although, Rocket will have a new sound after tomorrow

This video is from my last trip to the dyno. She has an ott X and RMB with stock pipes and big resonators.

I also made a video on the 68 exhaust note. Its a 327 engine that was modified in the 80's. The car was not ran since 1987 (see plate) and I finally fired her up Sunday. I got a lot of things to do this weekend: engine removal on the 88 S4 and fiberglass work on the Vette.

ALOT! I had a full cat back from PO but the cats were 20 years old and mega restrictive. The sound is louder and huskier with an occasional gurgle and just about the right volume to satisfy my yearning for a superficial plea for attention. I got one of the Ott designed units

Hi

Mine is the loudest 928 ever I think...lol

X-Pipes ....NO front boxes...NO middle boxes and straight through twin race pipes from front to rear, and the ONLY box in the whole system is a Paul Anderson Race rear box....

Youtube video here >>>> http://www.youtube.com/user/Brett928.../0/FpCK6PPVcjA

The exhaust test is at 7 minutes 37 seconds...it hits 120 Db at 5000 revs....

It goes off my meter at 7000 revs at 125 DB (not shown)...as I have nice neighbours

All the best Brett

Man - Incredible difference in sounds in the Sharks in Hell video. Although I don't think I'd ever rev a cold engine like that
