I guess I would be more concerned about the needle bearings and ball bearings on the input shaft, operating under a greater load without lubrication. I'm in the habit of considering the u-joints due to lots of experience with steering shafts that are a lot less beefy(my Ramcharger for example) and fail in normal use, let alone operating with increased effort.

Hence why I put the grease fittings on there. Just to get grease to these parts.

Ah, I see now -- you pump the input shaft/spool valve/bearing area full of grease. No wonder you haven't had issues.

Now I feel like an idiot, posted before I looked under the hood and found the belt had come off, has a slit in it and all I need is a new belt. Dodged the bullet on a semi expensive repair.
