In which of these states can I use a radar detector?

Drifting
Great topic. At the end of July I'll be doing a loop from Santa Barbara, Snowbird UT (thru Vegas), Reno, then back to Santa Barbara. I've noted your Fillmore warning. What speeds are "pushing it" thru other areas in those states? I need to make good time, but I don't need to take unnecessary risks doing it.

If you'll be driving I-15, beware when approaching most small towns along the freeway. The UHP troopers don't often set up speed traps more than approx. 10 miles either side of a town. Why drive way out to the boondocks when they can easily fill their quota close to food, beverages, and a bathroom?
They favor lurking in the shadows under a freeway overpass; in the median strip on the other side of a small hill; and sometimes near the top of a freeway overpass on-ramp - you almost have to glance up behind you as you pass under the overpass to spot 'em there.
Highway Patrol drives either Crown Vics or Chargers - but remember, County Mounties in Utah generally drive SUV's and also patrol the freeway from time to time.
UHP will usually give you 5 mph over the posted limit. Keep your eye on the speed limit signs. I-15 will vary from 65 mph near larger towns, to 75 mph on most of the freeway, to 80 mph on two isolated stretches.
