Default Ever had an aluminum ball joint break?

I'm ordering new suspension parts for my resto. I have heard the early aluminum ball joints break, true or rumor?
Mine only have 40k on them and are perfect, I'm up in the air about buying steel ones.

If only one person here has broke one, I will order a steel set. Let me know!

Thanks!

True....the ball pops out of the alloy socket. Usually when you turn the wheel hard like in parking or a u-turn and the wheel falls on it's side. If you check them OFTEN and do not run hard in the corners you probably could get away with it BUT......

You'd be well advised to change them out. They are dangerous. See this link: http://www.nichols.nu/tip523.htm

You also need two of the later eccentric caster camber adjusters nothing else for the update, used work fine.

That's exactly what happened to me about 5 yr.s ago - not a pretty sight. Hard to pick it up and pull onto a flat-bed truck without causing collateral damage. Not worth taking a chance, trust me !!!

I count myself very lucky to be alive after aluminum ball joint failure on my '82.
