Looks like alot of work but atleast you will know what you have when you get done. Buying a car all together with issues could be worse anyway. One good thing is the engine is out, so you can work on it and get everything right before install.

If you cant figure something out just post a question, someone here will assist you.
Since these are the kinds of projects you like , I will offer you a good luck on your quest.......
After restoring a few of these cars, I have learned.......

Yup, brave man..............but if you like projects, this will be fun and since the engine is already out, now is a great time to get all the jobs that are a major pain out of the way before you drop it back in.

If I were you I would have asked the seller for a 2 for 1 deal and drove off with that Jaguar XJS sitting behind the 928!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck, lots of support here............take it slow.

Michael,

I know Joe will be happy to assist with this. He really wants a 928, so he can live vicariously through you.

He has an engine stand and cherry picker that he's now done with (the motor is back in the 931). I'm sure with a little 6-pack persuassion, he'll let you borrow both.

Thank you. On the XJS, I may be a fool, but I am not crazy (that crazy).

Anything I can do to entice your wonderful assistance on any aspect of this project, is yours for the taking.

Good find! I just bought an 80 928 Automatic project car.

Persistance and some time under the hood will net you some good results in the end!

Welcome to the tank! There's no accounting for taste and one man's trash is another man's treasure. I know what it's like to bring home something no one else wanted. You'll either drive yourself nuts, learn enough from this to get a better example next time, or wind up with a car that you'd rather be under than in half the time (which is good because that's often how it works out). The amount of money required to restore these cars is significant, but a lot of it is offset by the amount of patience and willingness to do your own work.

Again, welcome and good luck. Please keep us posted.

Lucerne Valley, yipes, isn't that where they filmed the hills have eyes? About 25 years ago I think my wife and I took a late afternoon spin in our 914 out of Riverside, and I remember Old Woman Spring road and hwy 18.

My 85 Euro came from Landers, and last I checked the guy I bought it from still had two more early 928's under tarps he wanted to fix or sell. neither one needed a lot of work to run, but all the work they needed would have to be from skilled hands. He might be open to some kind of arrangement that left him with a working 928.

Yes, LV can seem creepy to some.... It is actually very beautiful desert if you like privacy - but must love the desert. Your memory is correct, LV resides at the intersection of those two highways. The road up to Big Bear is very twisty.

I will PM you about your idea above. Thank you.

Looks like the PO has an affection for cars that need constant attention...
That car has potential!
I have a CD manual I bought online. If you can't find one I will burn you a copy

my car was a basket case 2....the block was still in the car though. I suggest you try to replace anything needed with new or rebuilt parts. GOOD LUCK!
