I remember him telling me this allowed them to pass a noise test as well as assisting with fuel economy/emission tests.
Yes, the Corvette did it to meet the CAFE test.
I could be wrong about it, still sucks.
On the corvette it is easy to fix, the 928, not so much for me any way.

A first gear start requires a modification in the valve body.

Got to be some other reason for it.
I can think of no other car that was designed to start in second, can you?
Mercedes. I kind of wonder if part of it may have been a safety issue. Starting out in first gear with a car that makes a good bit of torque down low may not be a good thing in slippery road conditions. Mercedes used the second gear start in their cars with the higher power, while a first gear start was used on at least some of their turbo diesels. With the lag and lack of bottom end on those cars, they needed all the help that they could get off the line.

If I want a first gear start in my 928, I just put the gear selector in "2". Is there really that much of a demand or desire for a first gear start valve body modification? Might be time to start looking into offering that as a service for others if there is.

We tried moving the spring around, it did not change anything.
Do you know what mods need to be made?

I don't think I'd want 1st gear starts ALL the time. There are times when it's practical to have it start out in 2nd. Dropping it to "2" to get a 1st gear start isn't all that bad.

It is hard for me to move the shifter with out spilling beer.
Sure is not a cup holder in the car.

This car is my not my DD'er so starting in first will be a major plus for me. When I drive this car I want to scare the crap out of my wife so that will only help the situation! Especially for a supercharged car, the piece of mind know that your transmission can handle the power would be worth it. Do you think the increase in power from the supercharger contributed to the demise of your stock trans? If so, that tells you right there where you need to get the trans rebuilt.
