Looks like you have some work in front of you. If you have seen the recent threads about rebuilt water pump issues you might want to just leave yours alone unless it is leaking or the bearings are shot. I would also check the bumper shocks in the front if the car was in an impact. Good luck and have fun!

I hope you got that car and a check to go with it... As Jim Bailey would say that car is $10k away from being a $5k car! I always love to see another save and as long as you do it for YOU it will be great, if you do it thinking you will even come CLOSE to breaking even, then you are barking up the wrong tree in a very big way.
Thanks for saving another one and best of luck on your restoration!

Thanks for the input, and no I did not buy the car to turn a profit. I bought the car for me and only me. I plan to keep it for as long as I possibly can, I will turn my own wrenches on it, and put the money into it as it needs it.
I have made it a rule of thumb on every vehicle I purchase used, to replace all maintenance/wear items... I do not like getting stranded due to something I could have prevented.
However as for the waterpump problems I haven't researched this yet... I'm getting there!
The front of the car was not in an impact the bumper rebar is not bent the bumper is not cracked, it did not hit anyone or get hit by anything.

So...
It turns out that I think the fuel pump is shot... It only has one mounted up underneath. The lowest price is through germanautoparts.com for $206 + shipping. Part #928 608 104 01.
Things I've tried... I jumper terminals 30 to 87 with a lead... I get 9 volts to the pump? (Which eliminates my relay, key switch as a problem) I cleaned the electrical connections on the pump, no changes...
At one point I heard a very slight attempt at buzzing... it was very quick and disappeared as fast as it happened. The fuel pump body was hot, there was no fuel in the line leading from the exit of the tank to the pump (I would venture to guess there is a check valve in the filter in the bottom of the tank).
Yes, there is fuel in the car. Probly about 4-5 gallons of fresh 91 octane.
Anybody know anywhere else to get a fuel pump? Possibly a used working one so I don't sink $200+ into a part that may or may not solve my problem?

As for paint/body work... In the downtime, being it's not running yet. I'm working over the body and replacing fenders, broken brackets, clips, vac hoses etc.
I am thinking of repainting the car in a similar color to the burgandy 993 c4s that came from the factory... Does anybody know the paint code?
Any opinions on colors?

No fuel to the pump, no reason to blame the pump. First get fuel running to it and a full 12v+. If it still doesn't run, try reversing the leads as it may be clogged.
Some early cars have a fuel pump up inside the tank, others a secondary pump in the fender. If yours doesn't have the in tank pump it should have a filter screen. I suggest draining the fuel and having the tank flushed out, then replace all the rubber fuel hoses when the tank goes back in.
BTW have you given much thought to about what this project is going to cost?
Maybe its harsh of me, but I don't believe in repainting a 928. If it really needs paint, its a parts or track car, or I don't buy it. Good, way below factory standards paint, is just way beyond my budget.

In general, color changes take a lot of time and effort, but rarely increase the value of a car. In fact, they usually reduce it. A good repaint in original color is usually easier to do, cheaper, and better for the car's value.
Best of luck, and welcome to rennlist!

Phrases that are not in my dictionary...
Too expensive...
Can't be done...
It's impossible...
I won't
I can't
I don't know how...
No offense to anyone, but I don't give up on any car for any reason other than a bent or wrecked unibody.... everything else is repairable.
I know full well the cost of what I've gotten into... That's why I went the waterpumper route instead of the old school air cooled (the initial purchase expense is much greater, with the older air cooled 911 cars)... none of them are cheap... but all of them are fun...

Obviously I have some bad grounds throughout the car and throughout the week I will continue gutting the interior of the car, replacing cracked wires, grounds and bad connections... I will be checking the fuse block grounds, I've already cleaned the battery grounds and have excellent vdc to my starter... It's just a matter of troubleshooting... Good quality wrench time!

If not noted already the color of the 993 in the picture is Arena Red. IMHO it is one of the best colors out there and just as stunning in person as it is in pictures.
Good luck with the new acquisition and I know many of us look forward to seeing your progress pictures.

Arena Red paint codes...
L84R, L84S
Thanks for the help.
Does anyone have experience removing the rain gutter trim above the doors and next to the windshield? There is a screw holding the rear by the hatch with slide in clip. I've removed this piece and the painted bezel at the base of the windshield. It looks to me as though it is a pinch fit, but that it would push away from the car body easily with the proper tool, so as not to damage the roof.

Welcome to the tank!
I understand the desire to commit to, and fix the "needy" 928's...
It's too much of a shame to see them parted.
Good luck with the build. More photos as you go please!
