Nicom. It would probably be $200 for the single piston coating. http://www.usnicom.com/price.asp

Good to hear. My initial intent is to build everything out around the notion that I'll always run normally aspirated.

I tried sourcing used 944s/968 pistons from a local drivetrain dismantler. He actually had multiple 944s motors in stock... intact. Unfortunately, he didn't want to part them out.... and preferred that I buy both complete motors. Gamble on two used motors versus buying brand new OEM pistons cheaper? No brainer there.

I wish I could say that was the safe route, but one of the trouble motors used new OEM pistons.

I am currently beating the bushes looking for another 4 to match up with the 4 I have, but going slow and being cheap.

BTW a fair amount of info in this thread if you read the whole thing.

As I understand it they do not plate the piston, only the cylinders in the block. When I asked about having pistons plated I was told there wasn't a good way to finish the surface maintaining size.

I have a complete set of 8 low expansion forged high silicon pistons, they have offset piston pins like the factory and ceramic coated crowns. They are for a high compression motor and the valve cutouts are for large valves which you will need for higher levels of airflow. The heads need to be improved quite a lot to get high hp numbers.

So these are ready to go, they are coated for the alusil bore and use the chrome rings from the 968, so they are best pistons you could hope to put in a 928 2 valve engine. They will make a 327 CI on a stock crank or on an offset ground crank of 2" journal size around 5.5 litres. The pistons are lighter than stock also. I also have heads and a custom manifold, high lift cams etc I may sell for the right money.

You may want to ask again: http://www.usnicom.com/pistonCoatings.asp

Sending a PM on those 7 pistons.

"Who said that? R-Koneistus asks around $150/cylinder to make 104mm bore unless they have raised price lately." I saw a price of 150 euros in Finnish forum about 210$.
My 5,0L block is only used about 110 000 km and don't need rebore so no point to overbore it.

I was thinking epoxy to the bottom of water space for strenghening the block, for sealing and clueing.
I have read somewhere that all later water cooled Porsche engines have smaller water space around cylinders.

Danglerb , I have a set of 968 pistons getting coated for use in a stroker . Ceramic coating the tops and coating the skirts cost 350.00 at Calico coating in N . Carolina . The bearing main/rod are also getting coated . The engine builder that recomened this , showed me coated pistons that have run 7 seasons in a 1700 HP drag motor , they still looked good . I also 16V HP heads / cams / headers / intake for sale . Terry

Terry,

I am leaning towards Calico for thermal coating (exhaust only for now), but I would also like to give WPC a shot as a wear surface, friction reducer.

I have a few sets of heads, going with Euro S to start with, no idea on next motor. I'd kind of like to see more results from motors like yours before committing to any specific plan.
