Default fuel leak at bottom of tank-FIXED !!!

I have a fuel leak at the outlet of my fuel tank and would like to know the best way to repair this. Background as to work already preformed- last year replaced vent line as per Sharkskins great write up! then last month fuel leak came back, droped tank and replaced line from tank to pump, and from filter to wheel well line. I know from looking at PET that there is an o'ring that seals the outlet to the tank, and that this is "most" likely the place where it is still leaking. The main problem that I have is in reading up on the removale of the outlet, it appears that they tend to tear up the tank upon trying to unscrew them. If anyone has some insight on the best way to repair this, I would greatly appreciate it!

I dunno, I didn't have this problem at all. Same MY car, I drained the fuel, put a big wrench on the outlet (strainer assembly) and gave it a little push, it loosened right up. There wasn't any 'grunt' involved in getting the strainer loose. I suspect others at some point may have gorilla'd theirs in, but not on the one I did.

I took a little ice pic tool and cleaned off the old gasket (that was indeed trashed and leaking), cleaned the screen material, and slipped on a new one. Ops check was good. One gasket and about 40 min later (including draining the gas) and it was leak free and running again.

Just be careful when you give the strainer that first push or tug, after that it's easy.

usually the strainer will not turn freely, and then the collar it screws into turn with it then this will damage the tank and create a leak, the only options then are to replace the tank or try the JB weld reseal, that others have reported, no guarantees with the JB weld method

Thank's will try the big easy tommorow (sat) and see if I can get it to move gently out.

Stan this is what I had heard before and was afraid of, I will try the above step first, then possibly onto the J.B. method if needed.

Thanks to both-Mike

Following Brads advise, I put slow steady preasure on the outlet and it finally let go! No damage to suronding tank that I can tell as of yet. Went down to O'Reilly's and found o'ring that will work and hold up to fuel. refilled and so far so good will keep an eye on it for awhile just in case. Thank's again!
