Default Need A/C schrader valve for my 84

I can not shut the valve after a charge, and the freon leaks out from the valve. Any ideas. I also need a tool to tighten, pull out and reinstall this part.

Most shops have a tool for changing the valves with freon in the system.

Oh really? Got a link/pic for that, it sounds extremely useful.

I keep one in my tool pouch (I'm an HVAC/R contractor). You can buy them at most HVAC/R supply houses.
Ask for a Schraeder core removal tool.

Your 84 will be the standard 1/4 inch size unless it's been converted to 134a refrigerant...I've never seen a tool for the different sized fittings used for 134a but I bet they exist...something to look out for when you buy one though.

A plain old local auto parts store? These are standard AC pieces, not specific to the 928 or Porsche. Ditto on the tool. Plan to work fast so you minimize the loss of refrigerant and oil. Wear goggles and gloves so you don't damage eyes or freeze your fingers while gas is escaping. You can practice on a tire valve, and the tool is the same although the valve core seal material is not.

I am going to evacuate the system then recharge. All the freon has leaked out. I will put freon and oil for the compressor. The system worked great prior to this leak. It was recharged a year ago and I guess the valve was loose and then nothing.

How much oil are you going to add? Will you drain the compressor and flush all the components and add the full system amount?

The ones I have look a little different, but that is the tool I was talking about.

That's a nice looking tool. You should be able to find a cheap one at the local parts store. It should be where they keep the stuff for tire repair.

With the right tool you will lose almost no freon, maybe a gram or two.

Remove, disconnect and turn upside down while rotating the shaft. You also want to flush the evaporator(s) and condenser. Also, get a new receiver/drier and expansion valve(s). And since you are that far, may as well replace all the o-rings.

I would have thought since the manifold hoses need an adapter to fit then the tool would have the same mis match....good to know it doesn't.
If the gas is out of the system there is a much cheaper tool used for core removal, in fact a very small pair of needle nose has worked for me in the past.
