FWIW, the worst disaster I've seen as far as control units is having one channel fail on the finned unit in the front. I'll reiterate the need to go disassemble, clean, polish with a wire brush or fine sandpaper, and tighten the auxiliary wires connected at the battery positive post. More than a couple listers have said 'it can't be that, they look fine!' and found the cure when they actually took the connections apart. A few years ago at a Sharktoberfest, I spent the best part of the afternoong working on a guest's fan system. He assured us that he had checked the connections at the battery. After a couple hours with some real experts, including John V and Dan W, the owner rechecked those connections and found then just a little loose. He'd disconnected and cleaned the whole thing for a concours event so they did look real pretty. They just weren't tight enough. It doesn't take much to keep the fans from working, plus the next wire in the stack powers the injectors so goodidea to disassemble and clean all of them. Really!

I went thru just about everything you are going thru a few years back. I did all the diagnostics and it appeared that the control unit (silver box next to the passenger seat) was bad. I was ready to pony up the $$$$ for the new control unit. I opened the box up and checked all the solder joints. Rock each resistor/capacitor/electrical thing back and forth in the silver box (if you break something, you're buying a new one anyway). I found a single crack in 1 solder joint, got out my solder gun, fixed it, put it back in, and I've never had a problem since. It wouldn't have been noticeable without physically moving all the electrical do dads in the box. It's worth a quick check. Good luck.

There's a ~3/4" black thumb screw on each end of the carpeted cover.
