Default Who is responsible for this?????

O.K., I'm new to the forum and I'm a new 928 owner. While trouble shooting my speedo problem I came across this. Find this person and remove the hammers, duct tape and butt splices from his tool box.
Please show him a photo of shrink tubing and a soldering iron, so that he'll know what they look like when he goes to buy them.
I wonder if it's the same guy that put the fuel filter on backwards and " zip screwed " the spoiler to the bumper?

Well, you bought it.

Seriously though, that is an interesting "repair".

PO hackjobs are par for the course. It sucks, but you'd better get used to it. Mine was the same way, and it's taken my years to reverse the damage and even then I'm still finding little things that the guy did that I just don't understand.

Hey Jackson, Welcome!!

Where are you located? And please include some details about your car and maybe a couple of pictures.

At least it wasn't yellow wire-nuts. But what about the speedo? Fixed?

This is SO true.....it is increasingly rare to find a properly cared for 928 nowdays......as the values drop, more and more "hacks" buy 928's and do some really bizarre "repairs"....personally my favorite was the rusty vice grips inside the door that somehow kept the window in place....

I don't know what those pics are . I can tell you that some repairs are of a desperate nature. Let's not forget the factory has made some big mistakes too. In case you can't think of any, I would nominate: inadequate wiring from battery/alternator to fuse panel. Come on Porsche, those wires are a joke. I'm tired of my lights dimming under load. Hondas have figured this stuff out.

I am working on replacing a fuel pump. I am afraid that no matter how hard I think about it, someone is going to see it and declare it a hack. And a hack it will be, since it's impossible to redo the whole wiring design from clean slate to include the new features. But it will not be for lack of trying.

That's nothing I'm sure you'll find worse by the time it's all over. If that little thing scares you sell now!

Dave that connector looks similar to a rear light connector where it would connect behind the rear bulkhead.
That said from the condition of the trans there might be a possibility that the exhaust system rusted through and then began burning wires and other things till it was fixed.
The poor routing and wire choice might have been done because there isnt much room to work where these wires run with the fuel tank installed

At least you haven't found evidence of a thrown rod and huge chunks missing out of the girdle.

Yet.

Every used car is a bet, some are wins, some not so much.

If you're like me, you'll spend a ton of time carefully redoing all the worn out or botched repairs, so any "standard" work will take twice as long as it's supposed to.

Laugh and enjoy the right-ness you've got when you're done.
