Default 928 shops in Los Angeles (not O.C.)

Any recommendations for qualified 928 shops/mechanics in the LOS ANGELES area. I live right near downtown L.A., so anywhere with 15-20 miles is probably OK. Looking for someone who is experienced with these cars and can do a good PPI as well as general work.

I know there are great places in Orange County, but that's not a workable distance for me.

Thanks in advance.

Probably not any closer than OC.

German Auto Art in Santa Monica.

Hauer's German Car Service in Van Nuys

Hopefully someone will know of something closer to downtown for you.

Sadly, German Auto Art aka Markus Herms is closed, I went by there a month or so ago and the shop was empty. I tried to find out if he moved, but no one seemed to know. Markus is incredibly knowledgeable about the 928 and one of my top choices

If you drive to the SFV, Hauer's German Car Service is the place that maintains my S-4. Jules Hauer IMHO is an excellent 928 mechanic, and he even drives a 928OB. Good luck on your search

I saw Marcus this weekend out at Willow Springs. He came by to wish me luck at the enduro. I have his phone number if you need it.

Stephen--

Jules is good, reasonable, and actually gets the work done with care. I'm sure you'll pass his qualification test when your new car arrives (msut love the car and be willing to maintain it as he recommends) It's the same quals you'll need for social wrenching, no worries.

RolfR has another local (Burbank) wrench that takes care of his routine maintenance stuff, and swapped out a dufo water pump for him. So he's well beyond hammer-and-vise-grips capable.

When I'm home, the doors are pretty much always open if you need to do something yourself. I'm sure there's a list of baseline fluid change issues you'll want to take care of yourself when you get your car lined up, plus we can do alignment checks and the like too. Lots of good local support if you need it.

Please pass a 'gruß gott' next time you see him. He did my PPI and prep all sight unseen. Great guy...too bad Germany Auto Art closed up but I understand why.

The Burbank Shop is:
Florin's Auto Repair
301 N Victory Blvd
Burbank, CA 91502
(818) 842-6808‎

Florin is the owner and also does an outstanding job like the others.

Maruks has been suffering through some pretty serious medical issues; hopefully the worst is behind him and he will be "setting up shop" iin El Segundo. You can PM me and I can forward to him your info if the other shops identified do not suit you. Markus maintains my 4 928's and built up my track car. I have found no one more knowledgeable about 928's than him.

the good news is there are several highly qualified shops in the greater LA area.....not to mention the local 928ers..... A quick phone call to Mark Anderson will be very telling in which shops order lots of 928 parts...

Markus knows his 928s, but I was not very happy with his business practices...

PM if you need more details. But buyer beware, that's all I have to say about that.

I found Stuttgart Automotive in Santa Monica to be pretty good,
and VERY professional.

Thanks, Dr. Bob. That's very generous of you and reassuring for me. I'll have a final decision on the car after the weekend and if I purchase, I'd like to carefully plan for a baseline maintenance session. I'll probably post here and get a list going and then just plan it carefully. I haven't worked on my cars for a long time, but I'd like to do what I can with this one.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got all these shops filed away now. I checked distances and times via Google maps and I was surprised to learn that Precision Motorwerks (or 928 Mecca ), in Anaheim is only about 5 miles further than Hauer's in Van Nuys.

Somehow, to me, "Van Nuys" sounds like it's just around the corner and "Anaheim" seems like WAY down south.

Travel time, as calculated by Google, however, has a trip to Precision ranging between 36 and 210 minutes! Compare to Hauer's @ 32/55.

Florin's in Burbank is closest, for sure. So between that, Dr. Bob's, Hauer's and Precision and the I should be able to keep her on the road at least.

Thanks again for all the info.

When I lived in the Valley, I used Hauer's. I'll add my recommendation for Jules. I also highly recommend Precision in Anaheim.

From Greg's place in Anaheim, you can get a lift to the Amtrak station nearby and ride the rails back home, Stephen. That makes Greg a wee bit closer.

The 5 can be very, very ugly especially with all the construction right now (which is right next door to me, actually)

I'm maybe two miles from Greg's place if you need a ride. The Pacific Surflner trains are actually pretty nice, no traffic hassle and they have beer (Arrogant Bastard even!) at the snack bar! I've found going to/from downtown by train much easier and faster most of the time. Yeah yeah, I'm strange, I've actually used public transportation here.
