Default Cruise Control Problem

Tested my cruise control underway today. First test, when I attempted set, car continuously increased speed after I released lever. Brake and cancel position both worked to drop out the increasing speed. I let speed increase 15 mph before canceling. Second attempt, I could increase speed with lever but as soon as I released RPM immediately dropped off. I wasn't able to duplicate the uncontrolled increasing speed. I'm guessing the brain but any ideas would be appreciated.

'85: Same here. A couple months ago it would drift down; I opened the center console up and found a vac hose disconnected. Cruise worked fine, but now it is accelerating. Either way, I believe this is a vac issue. I have to dig deeper.

There is a WSM procedure that you can follow to see if the switch is operating correctly. I would suspect a bad switch in the cruise stalk.

Thanks. I'll check the switch next after a road test. I resoldered the connections in the Brain and want to see if that helped.

As a wrap-up, the resolder fixed the problem. I only reheated the 6-7 input connections using the desoldering tool I will show on a separate post.

There's a lot more than 7 in there. How did you choose? Pics?

The one's I choose were the leads connecting the circuit board to the external connector . I figured to be most likely problem and wanted to avoid reheating the multitudes.I've already put it back in but they are obvious after you slide out the board.

Thanks, that makes sense now that you describe it.

Increasing speed is what my '85 does = scary. I will have to try the resoldering the connector. Thanks!

Ken did resoldering the board make a difference??
My 86 is also doing this after putting in another used brain ( note it was doing this prior to the replacement brain)
