WOW!!! So glad your all ok..

I once hit a one pound bird at 540 knots, 200 feet alt.

Or was that a 540 pound bird at one knot?

Just too many years ago...

I must go to SITM next year with the Dallas bunch. Looks like you had a great/exciting time. Hope to see you and your new windshield at OCIC.

On the way home Mitch was telling me that he was at Lantana (I think that is where he was) doing some pattern work and a guy comes in with a badly damaged AeroStar that had suffered a bird strike, took the left windscreen out, guy was badly hurt but he got it on the ground.

What were you in?

At 540 KAS must have been a fighter.
I would love to hear that story.

That really sucks, but repairable. Now why did you eat the damn thing?

I'm glad no one got a pic of me ripping the spoiler off my car though.

Damn bird almost came in the car with us.

Sorry I did not get a pic of said Turkey.
By the time I got out of the car to see what kind of damage he had done to the car, Uncle Mitch was on him while he was still flopping around in the road.

He kicked it twice, then picked it up around the neck, swing it to kill it and off down the side of the mountain it went, dead.
If you got to meet Mitchel, well you understand just how fast this all happened.

(we like birds, even had a orange bag of bird feed in the car with us, see first pic)

First pic.

We had not gotten ten miles and Grandpa and Grandma on a Goldwing lost it coming in the other direction from us, we missed them by a couple of feet.

Here is uncle Mitch giving aid and comfort.

The guy behind him was a EMT from FLA, and just a couple of minutes later a group of riding doctors were there, we left.

Here is Mitch showing the bird strike to a Biker who thought we had hit them.

We said we had had enough excitement for the weekend and I be damned if not 5 miles down the road, a freegrazing Hefalump talking on a cell phone, signaled for a right turn and then did a left U turn right in front of us, we almost centered that one.

We had a short talk about Driving, cell phones, common courtesy, obesity and how long it would take to find a body off the side of the mountain before moving on.

We are all safe at home now though.

Had a wonderful time, got to meet some neat folks.

I was reading his Glock 40 thread earlier, some funny stuff.

He really hated the .40 cal, wouldn't even give me one of his because he didn't want me to blow up a hand. Now that I think about it, he unloaded one of my handguns and took all the shells one night at 3rd Coast. Never did give them back.

Greg told me there was only 1 gun/maker on the planet that could handle the .40 cal without any risks... as it was designed specifically for that caliber -the H&K USP. He was relieved and happy to learn that's what I had.

Proud to have counted you as one of my friends Greg... this world is less without you here. Godspeed.

Thank goodness that bird didnt go through the windshield.

I was on the track once in my GT and there were a bunch of pigeons just sitting on the track on my line. I honked my horn before I approached them at speed and most took off except one .... needless to say he bounced off my windshield like a tennis ball .... poor fella never knew what hit him.
