SITM Bike wreck and a Mashed Turkey.
We left (Uncle Mitch and my self) left early this morning, for a nice slow drive on the Parkway before coming home.
Mashed me a rather large turkey.
Damn bird almost came in the car with us.
Sorry I did not get a pic of said Turkey.
By the time I got out of the car to see what kind of damage he had done to the car, Uncle Mitch was on him while he was still flopping around in the road.
He kicked it twice, then picked it up around the neck, swing it to kill it and off down the side of the mountain it went, dead.
If you got to meet Mitchel, well you understand just how fast this all happened.
(we like birds, even had a orange bag of bird feed in the car with us, see first pic)
First pic.
We had not gotten ten miles and Grandpa and Grandma on a Goldwing lost it coming in the other direction from us, we missed them by a couple of feet.
Here is uncle Mitch giving aid and comfort.
The guy behind him was a EMT from FLA, and just a couple of minutes later a group of riding doctors were there, we left.
Here is Mitch showing the bird strike to a Biker who thought we had hit them.
We said we had had enough excitement for the weekend and I be damned if not 5 miles down the road, a freegrazing Hefalump talking on a cell phone, signaled for a right turn and then did a left U turn right in front of us, we almost centered that one.
We had a short talk about Driving, cell phones, common courtesy, obesity and how long it would take to find a body off the side of the mountain before moving on.
We are all safe at home now though.
Had a wonderful time, got to meet some neat folks.

Glad to hear the bird didn't come all the way through and hope that the biker wasn't injured to badly but gotta ask why Uncle M would pitch the turkey off the cliff?
I'd have the thing on the barbi mate

Uncle Mitchel kind of has impulse and anger issues when something or someone tries to hurt him.
Car was full of beer, no room for the bird anyway.
I think Grandma is going to be fine, but she is going to be sore as hell for a few days.
They were from Michigan, so now not only do they have injuries, but also a logistics problem as well, it looked like it may have broken a case from all the oil and fuel it was leaking.
I think we are getting old, we almost never used to come home from a trip with any beer.
I have to admit it was kind of funny watching him have to readjust his grip to swing the bird because of its size and weight.

I once had a birdstrike driving through central Oregon on a very nice two lane highway. Hit a big vulture that was swooping in on a fresh roadkill deer. I was looking at the deer partially on the edge of the road, did not see the vulture until it crashed into the center of the windshield. Caused me to jerk the wheel in reflex thereby swerving into and over the deer. Tore up all sorts of stuff under the car, exhaust brakets, brake fluid line and emergency brake cable. Totally unexpected and scared the ****e out of me. Windshield looked similar except centered where the rear view mirror was.
After getting the car towed to the next town did I notice a rather large hole in the middle of the driver's seat. Closer inspection revealed my sphincter took a bite out of the leather.
Glad to hear all are okay. Be safe out there, lotta turkeys on the road.

Hi Greg,
Is this your just finished 928?! Dang the luck, at least it wasn't the bikers or a deer.
Very happy to hear both of you survived the trip home and glad to hear the Bikers were not injured too badly.
Great report and story by the way! Sorry to have missed you at SITM.

You are right, it could have been a lot worse.
After 25 years on bikes on the streets, I am not sure I could handle hitting some one with a car.
Why yes, it was a trip to remember.
But we kept our sense of humor.

Now aren't you glad you got it running in time for the trip. Just think of all the fun and excitement you could have missed and you brought home a great story too.
Glad you got home with only minor damage. Now you'll have a nice new windshield to go with the paint and engine.

I could have done with out the story though, Mitchel and I have way to many of them.

Wow. Glad to hear you're ok and the damage to the '8 is not worse.
And what happened with the bikers, the road looks relatively straight in both directions?
